anthem blue cross aba therapy: Behavioral Forensics Douglas Ruben, 2019-11-01 Behavioral Forensics: Using Applied Behavior Analysis in Psychological Court Evaluations presents the first compendia on the application of behavioral principles for the assessment and analysis of criminal behavior in court-ordered psychological evaluations. The book explains criminal motivation, risk behaviors, custody, criminal responsibility, and competence to stand trial. BFA employs principles and techniques of standard behavioral assessment in deducing causal evidence from interview and psychometric data. Sections cover evidence-based concepts and principles of BFA vs. obsolete forensic evaluation models, also including ten case studies that illustrate BFA in pre and post-sentencing evaluations that demonstrate how to determine risk of criminal recidivism or competency. Considering the unprecedented numbers of psychologists turning to forensic work and influx of graduate programs offering degrees in criminal behavior analysis, this book is a timely resource for a variety of readers. - Presents the advantages of using Behavioral Forensic Assessment (BFA) over personality theories - Explains criminal motivation, risk behaviors, custody, criminal responsibility and competence to stand trial from a natural science (behavioral and interbehavioral) perspective - Includes case studies that illustrate BFA in pre-sentencing and post-sentencing evaluations - Offers the most scientific, evidence-based approach to criminal (forensic) psychological evaluations |
anthem blue cross aba therapy: Handbook of Early Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders Jonathan Tarbox, Dennis R. Dixon, Peter Sturmey, Johnny L. Matson, 2014-04-04 Current rates of autism diagnoses have been cause for concern and research as well as rumor and misinformation. Important questions surround the condition: how early can an accurate diagnosis be made? At what age should intervention start? How can parents recognize warning signs? And what causes autism in the first place? There are no easy answers, but the Handbook of Early Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders gives researchers, practitioners, and academics the science and guidance to better understand and intervene. Background chapters survey the history of professional understanding of the disorders and the ongoing debate over autism as a single entity or a continuum. Chapters on best methods in screening, assessment, and diagnosis reflect the transition between the DSM-V and older diagnostic criteria. And at the heart of the book, the intervention section ranges from evidence-based strategies for developing core skills to ethical concerns, cultural considerations, and controversial treatments. Included in the Handbook's broad-based coverage: Designing curriculum programs for children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Mainstream education for children with ASD. Teaching independent living skills to children with ASD. Social skills and play. Behavioral and mental health disorders in children with ASD. Training and supporting caregivers in evidence-based practices. Teaching cognitive skills to children with ASD. The Handbook of Early Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders is a comprehensive reference for researchers, professors, and graduate students as well as clinicians and other scientist-practitioners in clinical child and school psychology, child and adolescent psychiatry, social work, rehabilitation, special education, and pediatric medicine. |

anthem blue cross aba therapy: Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) James K. Luiselli Ph.D., 2014-03-07 Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a relatively new diagnostic label which reflects the variability and differentiation of symptomatology among children and youth commonly described as having autistic disorder, high-functioning autism (HFA), and Asperger's syndrome. Current best practices have emerged from decades of evidence-based research, research-to-practice translation of empirically supported procedures, and consensus-driven recommendations from multiple disciplines. As a result, practitioners have many educational and intervention choices for children and youth with ASD--what is critical is that these options are informed by empirical outcomes that have been replicated in experimental trials (group and single-case) and disseminated to professionals and researchers alike. Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a state-of-the-art volume of 15 chapters across four thematic sections that reflect the current convention of viewing autism along a continuum of presenting symptoms. Skillfully edited by James K. Luiselli, sections cover diagnosis, assessment, and measurement; evidence-based practices; health and development; and additional topics such as mindful caregiving and support, CBT, and behavioral family intervention. Compiling the most up-to-date advances in approaches toward diagnosis, education, treatment, and program development, Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be a valuable resource for professionals and trainees in the ASD field including psychologists, educators, therapists, behavior analysts, and similar practitioners. It is also appropriate for academic researchers and courses devoted to clinical psychology, special education, developmental disabilities, and special topics. |

anthem blue cross aba therapy: The Autism Puzzle Brita Belli, 2012-03-27 The alarming spike in autism in recent years has sent doctors and parents on a search for answers. And while many controversies have erupted around the issue, none have gotten us any closer to a definitive explanation, and many key concerns remain unexplored. Moving beyond the distractions of the vaccine debate, The Autism Puzzle is the first book to address the compelling evidence that it is the pairing of environmental exposures with genetic susceptibilities that may be impacting the brain development of children. Journalist Brita Belli brings us into the lives of three families with autistic children, each with different ideas about autism, as she explores the possible causes. She interprets for readers compelling evidence that environmental toxins—including common exposures from chemicals mounting in our everyday lives—may be sparking this disorder in vulnerable children. Belli calls for an end to the use of hazardous materials—like toxic flame retardants used in electronics and furniture, which have been banned elsewhere--insisting that we cannot afford to experiment with our children. The Autism Puzzle puts a human face on the families caught in between the debates, and offers a refreshingly balanced perspective. |

anthem blue cross aba therapy: Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Health and Medicine Division, Board on Health Care Services, Committee on Improving Health Outcomes for Children with Disabilities, 2018-08-06 Although the general public in the United States assumes children to be generally healthy and thriving, a substantial and growing number of children have at least one chronic health condition. Many of these conditions are associated with disabilities and interfere regularly with children's usual activities, such as play or leisure activities, attending school, and engaging in family or community activities. In their most severe forms, such disorders are serious lifelong threats to children's social, emotional well-being and quality of life, and anticipated adult outcomes such as for employment or independent living. However, pinpointing the prevalence of disability among children in the U.S. is difficult, as conceptual frameworks and definitions of disability vary among federal programs that provide services to this population and national surveys, the two primary sources for prevalence data. Opportunities for Improving Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities provides a comprehensive analysis of health outcomes for school-aged children with disabilities. This report reviews and assesses programs, services, and supports available to these children and their families. It also describes overarching program, service, and treatment goals; examines outreach efforts and utilization rates; identifies what outcomes are measured and how they are reported; and describes what is known about the effectiveness of these programs and services. |
anthem blue cross aba therapy: Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism Brian Reichow, Peter Doehring, Domenic V. Cicchetti, Fred R. Volkmar, 2010-11-25 Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) have been increasingly diagnosed in recent years and carries with it far reaching social and financial implications. With this in mind, educators, physicians, and parents are searching for the best practices and most effective treatments. But because the symptoms of ASDs span multiple domains (e.g., communication and language, social, behavioral), successfully meeting the needs of a child with autism can be quite challenging. Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism offers an insightful and balanced perspective on topics ranging from the historical underpinnings of autism treatment to the use of psychopharmacology and the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). An evaluation methodology is also offered to reduce the risks and inconsistencies associated with the varying definitions of key autism terminology. This commitment to clearly addressing the complex issues associated with ASDs continues throughout the volume and provides opportunities for further research. Additional issues addressed include: Behavioral excesses and deficits treatment Communication treatment Social awareness and social skills treatment Dietary, complementary, and alternative treatments Implementation of EBPs in school settings Interventions for sensory dysfunction With its holistic and accessible approach, Evidence-Based Practices and Treatments for Children with Autism is a vital resource for school psychologists and special education professionals as well as allied mental health professionals, including clinical child and developmental psychologists, psychiatrist, pediatricians, primary care and community providers. |
anthem blue cross aba therapy: Principles and Practice of Lifespan Developmental Neuropsychology Jacobus Donders, Scott J. Key points concerning the practice of developmental neuropsychology are emphasized in order to aid understanding of neuropsychological development and its impact on behavior, emotion, cognition, and social integration. This will be essential reading for advanced graduate students and early career professionals in the fields of neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, clinical psychology, school psychology, and rehabilitation psychology, as well as practitioners in the allied fields that interact with neuropsychology. |

anthem blue cross aba therapy: How Anthem Kills Children with Autism Travis Edward Breeding, 2016-03-09 Anthem insurance continues to cut and deny applied behavior analysis services in the state of Indiana. As the leading insurer in the state of Indiana Anthem should be held accountable to provide adequate treatment for autism for it's clients. Anthem works together with Family and Social Services as well as the Autism Society of Indiana to deny or cut ABA services for children with autism. This book exposes the conspiracy theory behind Family and Social Services, Anthem, and the Autism Society of Indiana. In this book you will learn that Anthem's medical reviewers that are signing off on and approving or denying behavior plans are not even ABA therapist themselves. We have psychiatrists who do not have a clue as to what autism is signing off on behavior plans when they have no experience at all in dealing with autistic behaviors. This is crazy and Travis hopes to draw attention to the level of bullying that Anthem is doing. Travis feels Anthem is more concerned with making a profit for its shareholders than it is in treating people with autism like himself. Travis shares how many parents feel trapped because they are not able to speak up or really advocate for their children out of fear that Anthem will cut their children's services even more. Anthem is engaging in very dangerous behavior that has the potential to hurt or kill thousands of children with autism and they must be stopped. This book exposes the wrong doings of Anthem insurance and explains how they have formed connections with Family and Social Services in the state of Indiana along with forming a collation with the Autism Society of Indiana to work to prevent children with autism from getting applied behavior analysis or social skills coaching. This is a great book from someone living on the autism spectrum who understands what kind of treatment people with autism need. Here is an excerpt from the book. I also find it rather interesting that the medical reviewers at Anthem are not even ABA Therapist. Yes a Psychiatrist with no training in Autism or ABA therapy is reviewing behavior plans and deciding how many hours a child with autism needs and should receive of ABA therapy. The decision about rather a child should receive ABA therapy or not is being made by an uneducated person who has not even met the child or the child's therapist in person. If they are going to be deciding how many hours of ABA therapy that a child with autism should receive then they should at least observe the child and know the child before determining how many hours the child is going to receive. |

anthem blue cross aba therapy: Unstrange Minds Roy Richard Grinker, 2008-07-31 A father's inspiring portrait of his daughter informs this classic reassessment of the epidemic of autism. When Isabel Grinker was diagnosed with autism in 1994, it occurred in only about 3 of every 10,000 children. Within ten years, rates had skyrocketed. Some scientists reported rates as high as 1 in 150. The media had declared autism an epidemic. Unstrange Minds documents the global quest of Isabel's father, renowned anthropologist Roy Richard Grinker, to discover the surprising truth about why autism is so much more common today. In fact, there is no autism epidemic. Rather, we are experiencing an increase in autism diagnoses, and Grinker shows that the identification and treatment of autism depends on culture just as much as it does on science. Filled with moving stories and informed by the latest science, Unstrange Minds is a powerful testament to a father's search for the truth. |
anthem blue cross aba therapy: The Verbal Behavior Approach Mary Lynch Barbera, 2007-05-15 The Verbal Behavior (VB) approach is a form of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), that is based on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior and works particularly well with children with minimal or no speech abilities. In this book Dr. Mary Lynch Barbera draws on her own experiences as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and also as a parent of a child with autism to explain VB and how to use it. This step-by-step guide provides an abundance of information about how to help children develop better language and speaking skills, and also explains how to teach non-vocal children to use sign language. An entire chapter focuses on ways to reduce problem behavior, and there is also useful information on teaching toileting and other important self-help skills, that would benefit any child. This book will enable parents and professionals unfamiliar with the principles of ABA and VB to get started immediately using the Verbal Behavior approach to teach children with autism and related disorders. |
