anthropography is a science by which we can:: The Sciences of the Soul Fernando Vidal, 2011-12-01 Fernando Vidal’s trailblazing text on the origins of psychology traces the development of the discipline from its appearance in the late sixteenth century to its redefinition at the end of the seventeenth and its emergence as an institutionalized field in the eighteenth. Originally published in 2011, The Sciences of the Soul continues to be of wide importance in the history and philosophy of psychology, the history of the human sciences more generally, and in the social and intellectual history of eighteenth-century Europe. |

anthropography is a science by which we can:: Before Social Anthropology James Urry, 2012-10-12 First Published in 1993. From the 1930s, British anthropology was dominated by social anthropologists, an achievement of the two founding fathers, Bronislaw Malinowski and A.R. Radcliffe-Brown. However, the field of ethnology had originated in Britain in the 1840s and a broadly based general anthropology was well established before the rise of social anthropology. The essays in this volume explore the development of British anthropology in the period from 1880 to 1920 and deal with such diverse issues as the establishment of new research methodologies, the development of ethnographic reporting, institutional change and the professionalization of the subject, and the connection between anthropology and imperialism. These essays reveal how the establishment of social anthropology involved a narrowing field which at first involved not just the study of custom but also included archaeology, physical anthropology and philology. The emergence of the new approaches of the 1920s and 1930s, and the triumph of social anthropology as an academic, intellectual and professional discipline in post-war Britain also led to the subsequent loss of a more holistic vision of anthropology. |

anthropography is a science by which we can:: The Passing of the Frisians D.J.H. Nyèssen, 2012-12-06 The science of Anthropology has now arrived at a turning-point in its history. It is no longer a science of mere statistics and system atized data, but has become what it always professed to be, a branch of general biology. Therefore the present moment is espe dally fitted for looking back upon past achievement. Whoever casts a glance at the work of anthropological research in Holland, will probably feel some disappointment at themeagre results obtained, as compared with the immense amount of labour spent on the subject. Yet it is encouraging to remember that all pioneer-work requires great and prolonged exertion in preparing the ground, whereas perhaps only later generations will harvest the grain. What can be the reason that anthropological research in Hol land isstillso backward? Let us try to indicate some ofthe causes, and at the same time attempt to find means to insure greater success in future. Perhaps we shall be able to obtain good results with the old material. |

anthropography is a science by which we can:: American Geography and Geographers Geoffrey J. Martin, 2015 The rise of American geography as a distinctive science in the United States straddles the 19th and 20th centuries, extending from the post-Civil war period to 1970. American Geography and Geographers: Toward Geographic Science is the first book to thoroughly and richly explicate this history. Its author, Geoffrey J. Martin, the foremost historian on the subject and official archivist of the Association of American Geographers, amassed a wealth of primary sources from archives worldwide, which enable him to chart the evolution of American geography with unprecedented detail and context. From the initial influence of the German school to the emergence of Geography as a unique discipline in American universities and thereafter, Martin clarifies the what, how and when of each advancement. Expansive discussion of the arguments made, controversies ignited and research voyages move hand in hand with the principals who originated and animated them: Davis, Jefferson, Huntington, Bowman, Johnson, Sauer, Hartshorne, and many more. From their grasp of local, regional, global and cultural phenomena, geographers also played pivotal roles in world historical events, including the two world wars and their treaties, as the US became the dominant global power. American Geography and Geographers: Toward Geographical Science is a conclusive study of the birth and maturation of the science. It will be of interest to geographers, teachers and students of geography, and all those compelled by the story of American Geography and those who founded and developed it. |

anthropography is a science by which we can:: Separate Humans Albert Piette, 2016-06-07T00:00:00+02:00 This book is a theoretical essay that lays foundations on which to build an anthropology directly focusing on human units. In the first chapter, the author attempts to show that the evolutionary specificity of humans constitutes an argument in favour of this perspective. The consciousness of existing in time and nuanced modalities of presence call for a detailed observation of humans. The second chapter is a critique of the abundant use of the notion of relations in social anthropology. This critique is necessary because of the extent to which the various theoretical and methodological uses of relations absorb and lose existences and their details. The third chapter concerns nonhumans, another major theme of contemporary anthropology. Albert Piette sees a certain debasement of the notion of existence and proposes a realist ontology, considering what does and does not exist, from the examples of divinities, animals and collective institutions. It is not a matter of being satisfied with an analysis of ontologies or local metaphysics, but also showing what really is in a situation, and not just from the point of view of people and their discourse. This analysis leads to a classification of beings and to a consideration of the importance of minimality in human existence. |

anthropography is a science by which we can:: A Cacophony of Treasured Finds B.J. Cline-Woodruff, 2013-02-07 While sitting in the authors home, ones first impression is that of an overwhelming sense this lady is eccentric in her nature. But, that is just a part of her charm. As you look around her surroundings, you see trophies, awards and ribbons of an era gone by, when she was and still is an artist, sculptor, poet and writer, lining her shelves and walls. She appears quiet, even soulful, but as conversation continues, in the blink of an eye can become animated and childlike. Just in her 70s, this author resides in the deep, deep waters of Jesus Christ, from a Jewish prospective. In this, her fourth book: A Cacophony of Treasured Finds, she takes you down pathes way less traveled, in Scripture, and writes of subjects most leaders will not touch on. Maybe because they are more comfortable sipping the milk of the Word of God, or, have not yet had an opportunity to delve into, and study the deepness of the Word, and teach of these hidden truths. Maybe, out of fear? Fear they might loose their congregation? Fear they cannot or will not want to get off the milk of the Word? Or, perhaps, its the money they will lose if they get into the meat of the Word and loose half, or more of their congregation? This bold look at the Holy Scriptures takes you into a deeper level of Scripture and gives a whole different perspective than you are used to, and one where you are a spectator, looking on, at the subjects being written about. The authors book, this time, can be viewed as a workbook, having places sporadically for your notes. A study book for home or church gatherings, or just a wonderful learning-tool for yourself or your family as well. Finally! A book rich in content that will deepen your walk with our Lord Savior, Jesus. Giving you fresh insights, viewpoints, at the turn of every page, comparing them with Scripture from your very own Bible. Thank you, DeNyse Practical, well written, chock-full of insight and wisdom. Jim Collins Author of Good to Great. To those who love books, Belvas has proved to be fine, distinguished and eloquently collectable editions. THE TIMES (London) |
