bible study jeremiah 1: How to Study the Bible Dwight L. Moody, 2017-07-01 I will never forget thy precepts; for with them thou hast caused me to live. (Psalm 119:93) There is no situation in life for which you cannot find some word of consolation in Scripture. If you are in affliction, if you are in adversity and trial, there is a promise for you. In joy and sorrow, in health and in sickness, in poverty and in riches, in every condition of life, God has a promise stored up in His Word for you. This classic book by Dwight L. Moody brings to light the necessity of studying the Scriptures, presents methods which help stimulate excitement for the Scriptures, and offers tools to help you comprehend the difficult passages in the Scriptures. To live a victorious Christian life, you must read and understand what God is saying to you. Moody is a master of using stories to illustrate what he is saying, and you will be both inspired and convicted to pursue truth from the pages of God’s Word. bible study jeremiah 1: Jeremiah Matthew S. Harmon, 2016-07-18 The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God's Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) Gospel Glimpses highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) Whole-Bible Connections show how any given passage connects to the Bible's overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) Theological Soundings identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God's grace on every page of the Bible. Appointed to be a prophet before he was born, Jeremiah faithfully preached God's Word in the face of confusion, opposition, and persecution. When instructed, he brought the message of God's righteous judgment against sin to the nation of Israel, but not without reminding them of God's covenant faithfulness. In this 12-week study, Matthew Harmon highlights key biblical themes, clarifies crucial doctrines, and draws personal applications from the book of Jeremiah—reminding us of the truth that God's proclamation of judgment is always intended to spur his people to seek salvation in and through him. |
bible study jeremiah 1: Jeremiah 1-29 John Martin Bracke, 2000-01-01 The prophet Jeremiah declared the word of the Lord at a critical time in the history of ancient Israel. In this first volume of a two-part commentary on Jeremiah, John Bracke provides a powerful interpretation of the prophet's message to a nation that refused to listen to the call to repent and to renew covenant living in obedience to God's commandments. Bracke considers Jeremiah's words to Israel relevant to the church today, a warning against trusting in deceptive words and against clinging to comfortable ways in the false belief that it does not risk judgment. He encourages us to read the book of Jeremiah and apply its lessons to our own lives. --Book Jacket. |
bible study jeremiah 1: Introduction to the Prophets Paul L. Redditt, 2008-11-03 Writing in a conversational rather than a scholarly tone, Paul Redditt assumes little or no prior knowledge of the Old Testament as he presents and introduces the Major and Minor Prophets in the canonical order of the English Bible. The chapters of Redditt's Introduction to the Prophets discuss the place of each book in the canon; the literary setting of each book; their structure, integrity, and authorship; the main genre(s) in each; special features of each book; basic emphases of each book; and problems -- theological, literary, or historical -- raised by a study of the book. Among other things, Redditt demonstrates that the prophets were both “foretellers” and “forthtellers,” and he argues that the Old Testament prophets developed the concept of monotheism. Each chapter ends with questions for further reflection. Concluding the volume are a helpful glossary and several indexes. |

bible study jeremiah 1: On the Whole Bible Matthew Henry, 1995-07 Born the son of a clergyman on October 18, 1662, Matthew Henry was ordained into the British Presbyterian Church where he held the pastorate in Chester from 1687 to 1712. He was widowed, married again and had 10 children, three whom died in infancy. Henry died in 1714. Henry began work on his commentary as Notes On The New Testament in 1704 and the monumental work was completed shortly before his death in 1714. Remembered as a caring pastor, a passionate lover of the Word of God, and a man of great personal integrity, Matthew Henry has left his mark on the hearts of countless Christians who seek a deeper understanding of the riches that Scripture contains. This edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible uses the King James text and is abridged from the original six volumes while faithfully retaining all of the vibrant themes of that classic work. Everything here is in Matthew Henry's own words and nothing relevant to today's reader has been omitted. |

bible study jeremiah 1: Studies in the Prophecy of Jeremiah G. Campbell Morgan, 2010-04-01 The Prince of Bible Expositors presents the stirring events of Jeremiah's career in this volume--one of the most oustanding works on this subject ever published. In these chapters, the character of this prophet of strength and tears is analyzed and appraised and his dealings with the people are carefully pursued and portrayed, while his prophetic utterances which constituted the word of Jehovah to a decadent age are interpreted in a masterly manner. This unabridged edition embraces the penetrating analysis and warm devotional spirit which characterizes all of Dr. Morgan's writing. The world has seen but one G. Campbell Morgan, whose messages are as popular, effective, and inspiring today in printed form as they were when preached from the pulpit. What the artist portrays with his brush, G. Campbell Morgan reveals with his pen, a pen that never rested from its labors in the cause of Christ. |

bible study jeremiah 1: 1 Corinthians Dr. David Jeremiah, 2020-03-03 Living as citizens of Christ's Kingdom... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the book of 1 Corinthians in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. The apostle Paul founded many churches in the Roman Empire, including one in the prominent city of Corinth. As the commercial capital of the region, its citizens lived decadent lifestyles. Paul wrote his first letter to the Corinthians to urge them to live as citizens of God's kingdom and separate themselves from the sinful practices of the world around them. Paul offers practical guidance on each issue they are facing, revealing to them—and us today—what it means to be a member of the Body of Christ and truly love one another as Jesus first loved us. Each of this study's twelve lessons is clearly organized to include: Getting Started: An opening question to introduce you to the lesson. Setting the Stage: A short reflection to explain the context of the study. Exploring the Text: The Scripture reading for the lesson with related study questions. bible study jeremiah 1: Radical David Platt, 2010-05-04 New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a successful suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring. |

bible study jeremiah 1: The Book of Jeremiah John Goldingay, 2021-12-07 Of the Major Prophets, Jeremiah is perhaps the least straightforward. It is variously comprised of stories about the prophet Jeremiah, exchanges between Jeremiah and Yahweh, and messages directly from Yahweh—meaning a consciousness of form is essential to the understanding of its content. At times it is written in poetry, resembling Isaiah, while at other times it is written in prose, more similar to Ezekiel. And it is without doubt the darkest and most threatening of the Major Prophets, inviting comparisons to Amos and Hosea. John Goldingay, a widely respected biblical scholar who has written extensively on the entire Old Testament, navigates these complexities in the same spirit as other volumes of the New International Commentary on the Old Testament series—rooted in Jeremiah’s historical context but with an eye always trained on its meaning and use as Christian Scripture. After a thorough introduction that explores matters of background, composition, and theology, Goldingay provides an original translation and verse-by-verse commentary of all fifty-two chapters, making this an authoritative and indispensable reference for scholars and pastors as they engage with Jeremiah from a contemporary Christian standpoint. |

bible study jeremiah 1: Jeremiah Kathleen M. O'Connor, 2011 Whether dealing with collective catastrophe or intimate trauma, recovering from emotional and physical hurt is hard. Kathleen O'Connor shows that although Jeremiah's emotionally wrought language can aggravate readers' memories of pain, it also documents the ways an ancient community, and the prophet personally, sought to restore their collapsed social world. Both prophet and book provide a traumatized community language to articulate disaster; move self-understanding from delusional security to identity as survivors; constitute individuals as responsible moral agents; portray God as equally afflicted by disaster; and invite a reconstruction of reality -- Publisher description. |

bible study jeremiah 1: Colossians and Philemon Dr. David Jeremiah, 2021-03-23 Finding freedom in Christ... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the letters of Colossians and Philemon in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. The apostle Paul may never have visited the small town of Colossae, located in modern-day Turkey, but he was linked to the congregation through a coworker named Epaphras. This man came to visit Paul while he was imprisoned in Rome to deliver troubling news about destructive teachings that had taken root in the Colossian fellowship. Paul penned a letter in response, urging the believers to experience the freedom they had found in Christ, recognize their salvation came through the Lordship of Jesus alone, and reflect the light of Christ in their lives. Paul also penned a short personal letter to a Colossian believer named Philemon, urging him to forgive a slave who had departed from him and receive him back as a fellow brother. Paul's words in these letters compel us to remember everything that Jesus has done for us and treat others as we want to be treated. bible study jeremiah 1: Matthew Dr. David Jeremiah, 2019-06-18 Jesus is the eternal King... Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the gospel of Matthew in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. At first glance, it seems surprising that Jesus would call a man like Matthew to become one of His disciples. As a small-time tax collector, Matthew would have been despised by the Jewish people, who viewed those in the profession as traitors to Rome. But the fact that Matthew was educated, literate, and also familiar with Jewish law and customs made him the ideal candidate to not only accompany Jesus during His earthly ministry but also record all that he witnessed. The result is the Gospel we have today. Matthew shows how Jesus, as the promised Messiah and eternal King, is worthy of our hope and our complete devotion. Each of this study's twelve lessons is clearly organized to include: Getting Started: An opening question to introduce you to the lesson. bible study jeremiah 1: Expository Parenting Josh Niemi, 2017-10-08 There is much to be said for men and women who courageously evangelize on college campuses, in prisons, and near shopping centers. After all, the Bible indicates that disciples are primarily made by going out to meet lost people where they are. But make no mistake about it: if you're a parent, The Great Commission has come to you-in a bassinet, a booster seat, or a bunk-bed. While other parenting philosophies rely on what seems to work (i.e. pragmatism), what we've always done (i.e. traditionalism), or what's right for us (i.e. relativism), a better perspective is founded upon a biblical approach: teaching the full counsel of God and allowing Scripture to do its work in a child's heart. How do we accomplish this? We must examine the Bible's instructions for pastors, and then apply those principles in the home. In other words, just as the preacher must be committed to expository preaching, so too must the parent be committed to expository parenting. |
bible study jeremiah 1: The Wiersbe Bible Study Series: Jeremiah Warren W. Wiersbe, 2012-03-01 Hundreds of years before Christ's birth, the people of Judah were in full rebellion. Based on Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe's popular BE series of commentaries, each study provides topical, relevant insights from selected books of the Bible. Designed for small groups or individuals, this eight-week study examines events that led to the fall of Isreal, while exploring the heart and mission of a prophet who made a decision to stand for the Lord no matter what. |
