delaware erosion and sediment control handbook: A Guide to Site and Environmental Planning Harvey M. Rubenstein, 1987-07-24 An up-to-date revision of the successful text and reference work on site planning. Several chapters have been expanded, revised and renamed, and there are new chapters on specifications, sports facilities and playgrounds, rooftop gardens, and development design guidelines. Chapters follow phases in the development of a site plan and include material explaining site selection and analysis, land use and circulation, visual design factors and natural elements in site organization, contours, grading and earthwork calculations, site drainage, alignment of horizontal and vertical curves, and details in the landscape. The presentation follows the well-received format of previous editions, covering resource analysis, erosion control and soil loss, and circulation relating to the automobile, bicycle, pedestrian, and handicapped. Includes material on the use of trees in site planning and on residential development concepts.

delaware erosion and sediment control handbook: The Sustainable Sites Handbook Meg Calkins, 2012-01-18 Get the definitive resource guide for sustainable site design, construction, and management. The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) is transforming land design, development, and management practices across the United States with the first national rating system for sustainable landscapes. The Sustainable Sites Handbook features comprehensive and detailed information on principles, strategies, technologies, tools, and best practices for sustainable site design. Contributors to this book are some of the same experts that carefully shaped the SITES rating tool, ensuring thorough coverage of the broad range of topics related to sustainable site design. The Sustainable Sites Handbook offers in-depth coverage of design, construction, and management for systems of hydrology, vegetation, soils, materials, and human health and well-being. Focusing primarily on environmental site design and ecosystem services, this wide-ranging guide also covers issues of social equity, economic feasibility, and stewardship, which are crucial to the success of any sustainable site. Equally useful as a handbook for obtaining SITES credits or for the independent development of sustainable sites, The Sustainable Sites Handbook is an indispensible resource for practicing professionals in landscape architecture, landscape design, architecture, civil engineering, land planning, horticulture, ecology, environmental engineering, landscape contracting, and parks and recreation management.

delaware erosion and sediment control handbook: Cost-effective and Sustainable Road Slope Stabilization and Erosion Control Laura Fay, Michelle Akin, Xianming Shi, National Cooperative Highway Research Program, 2012 In the United States it is estimated that 75 percent of all roads are low volume roads maintained by some 35,000 local agencies. Low volume roads often omit surface slope protection, and this can lead to slope failure, erosion, and maintenance, safety, and ecological issues. This report presents information on cost effective and sustainable road slope stabilization techniques, with a focus on shallow or near surface slope stabilization and related erosion control methods used on low volume roads. To fully address this topic, planning and site investigation are discussed, as well as erosion control techniques, soil bioengineering and biotechnical techniques, mechanical stabilization, and earthwork techniques. Information presented in this report was obtained through an extensive literature review, and from survey and interview responses. From the survey responses, 30 individuals were interviewed based on the information they made available in the survey. A total of 25 interviews were conducted over the phone, and in two cases written responses were received--Preface.

delaware erosion and sediment control handbook: Handbook of Coastal Processes and Erosion Paul D. Komar, 2018-02-06 The objective of this book is to focus on the physical processes that cause coastal erosion. Many scientists and engineers have focused their research on the entire range of physical processes from the waves and the currents in the nearshore to the response of the beach, via sand transport, resulting in a changing coastal morphology. Of these many processes, this book focuses only on those which directly relate the generation of coastal erosion. Some chapters deal exclusively with the physical processes, while others provide examples of erosion problems although most of the chapter topics have clear implications for issues of coastal-zone management, these issues are not belaboured as several other books are already available in this area. The objective is to provide state-of-the-art presentation of the science of coastal erosion processes.
delaware erosion and sediment control handbook: Sustainable Solutions for Water Resources James L. Sipes, 2010-03-30 Get the single-source solutions guide to the sustainable management of water resources. Why is water the environmental issue? The answer is simple: without it, life on this planet could not exist. Yet, despite this fact, reckless consumption practices from a growing population are drying up the Earth's already limited water resources. Other factors, such as river and lake contamination, rising temperatures, and disproportionate geographic accessibility further contribute to the fresh water crisis. To confront this pressing concern, this enlightening guide, which covers over twenty case studies offering insights into real-world projects, uses a holistic, integrated approach to illustrate ways to preserve vital water supplies -- from green design remedies to encouraging greater personal responsibility. This book: Provides a basic overview of water resources, hydrology, current problems involving water resources, and the potential impact of global warming and climate change. Covers watershed planning, Best Management Practices, and potential design and planning solutions. Offers a concise overview of the issues affecting water use and management. Includes a full chapter dedicated to planning issues, and a full chapter covering site planning, design, and implementation. Sustainable Solutions for Water Resources takes a practical approach to head off a global water catastrophe by offering sensible measures that can be put in place immediately to promote a clean, plentiful flow of the Earth's most precious resource.
