esv inductive study bible: Sermon on the Mount (Precepts for Life Program Study Guide) Kay Arthur, 2015-06-29 Sermon on the Mount (Precepts for Life Study Guide: black and white version) Early in His ministry Jesus passed through the region of Galilee teaching in synagogues, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of sickness. As news of these miracles spread rapidly to several other regions, people brought their desperately sick relatives and friends to Him. When He healed all of them, a huge crowd began to follow Him. At a strategic point, He headed up a mountain overlooking the Sea of Galilee to teach them what has become known as the Sermon on the Mount. Now what exactly did He say that was so important to such a vast audience and to us today? You'll discover what He said in these ten programs: 1. Who the religious authorities in His day were 2. Why you should choose Jesus to be your authority 3. How sons of God live in our age of darkness-what they value, how they think, and what they do. 4. What God has planned for His sons both in this life and in the next Throughout this Sermon Jesus presses the point that His Father is creating a kingdom of sons of light to invade, lighten, and conquer darkness for all eternity. Join us in this exciting study to learn all it means to be a son of God, to be all in for God so that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.

esv inductive study bible: The Precept Study Bible Michael Johnson, Sr., 2019-09-10 Translators imputed words in the King James Bible and italics them because some have assumed that those words were placed for importance. In fact, the words in italics in the King James Bible are words that were added by the translators to help the reader. They felt it was necessary when translating from one language to another because a word in one language may not have a comparison word in English and natural expressions often do not efficiently flow smoothly from one language to another. Hence, the words in italics are words which do not have any equality in the Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek text. By adding these words, the translators' goal was to make the meaning of the sentence clearer and produce a more readable translation that reads smoothly, yet was faithful to the original. However, to make sure that the reader understood that these words were not in the manuscripts, they set them in italics.Clearly, the words in italics were not miraculously given to the translators by God as additional inspiration the same way He did as recorded in 2 Peter 1:21, holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Neither are the italics there to add emphasis. The words in italics in the King James Bible are words that were added by the translators to help the reader better understand the intent of the passage translated from the original languages. The same as for me (Michael Johnson, Sr.), I added all my precepts and word appellations using italics. To give the reader notice, they are not part of scripture. They were added for clarity only, and give the reader a better understanding of what the passage is saying and what the words mean at the time the word was being in the Bible. Word appellations are used to give the reader knowledge of geographical locations (as of a region, village, or vineyard), or person(s) name meaning, and location, city, place, and wilderness locations. Appellations are also used to identify the characteristics and acts by appellations.

esv inductive study bible: Job Frances Poston Bennett, 2009-06-01 The average person opens the Bible to Job because of pain. Like Job, we have lost someone, lost something, lost hope, lost joy. Even then, the average person does not read the book of Job. In times of sorrow, we search the book of Job. We hunt answers. We devour God’s Word because we have a need that nothing else can satisfy. Once upon a time I thought I would never know joy again. Sorrow beyond anything I had ever known crushed me. God broke my heart. Jesus said, Seek and you will find. So I sought comfort in God’s Word. I read that when Job met God, Job said what he learned was too wonderful for me. I did not understand what was so wonderful about Job’s discovery, so I reread the book of Job. I looked up every cross reference cited in my Bible. I searched recommended commentaries. I prayed. I read Job again and again and again. What did I find? Jesus was right: I found what I was seeking. Job was right: God’s Word reveals things that are too wonderful for me. We can take any sorrow, any loss, any fear, any pain to God’s Word. We can ask any question, as Job did. We can hurl any grief to God in prayer, as Job did. And at the end of our search, we will find Christ and comfort beyond our expectation. To my profound amazement, I now thank God that He led me through deep sorrow because it was sorrow that led me to seek; and as Jesus promised, those who seek do find. I learned things about God that I had not known. I found comfort. I found joy. God is indeed too wonderful for me. Study questions included in the appendix. It is my prayer that others who study Job: Lessons in Comfort will also learn things too wonderful for me. When we begin to grasp His goodness, we too can offer true comfort to others.
esv inductive study bible: Literarily Kristie Anyabwile, 2022-03-01 Don’t just read the Bible literally—read it Literarily. A lot of times, we treat Scripture like it’s all the same from Genesis to Revelation. After all, it only has one Author. Isn’t it just one big book, identical from beginning to end? While it’s true that the Bible is unified, it is also diverse. The Bible can be grouped according to key categories, called genres, that help us to read and properly interpret the Scriptures. An understanding of these genres, and the literary themes and devices used within them, makes all the difference when encountering God’s Word. Long-time Bible teacher Kristie Anyabwile discovered as she prepared her lessons that a single inductive approach doesn’t do justice to the variety of genres that make up the Word of God. Because Scripture is a collection of writings that spans 1,500 years, many literary styles are represented and each must be taken into account for the fullest understanding of God’s Word. Kristie shows you the immense value of studying the Bible literarily—that is, according to the literary style presented in a particular book, chapter, or passage. In Literarily, Kristie will take you through these eight distinct genres: Law History Prophecy Poetry Gospels Epistles Wisdom Apocalyptic The Bible is an epic story that God has revealed to us through diverse genres and literary features. Its message and method are both meant to transform our hearts. Our goal as interpreters isn’t to meld the Scriptures into a bland conglomerate, but to recognize the multiple forms in which God’s Word comes to us. In so doing, we’ll encounter the ongoing story of Jesus’s redemption and learn how He calls His people to live in our complex world today.
