devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Techniques in Pheromone Research Hans E. Hummel, Thomas A. Miller, 2012-12-06 Insects as a group occupy a middle ground in the biosphere between bacteria and viruses at one extreme, amphibians and mammals at the other. The size and general nature of insects present special problems to the student of entomology. For example, many commercially available instruments are geared to measure in grams, while the forces commonly encountered in studying insects are in the milligram range. Therefore, techniques developed in the study of insects or in those fields concerned with the control of insect pests are often unique. Methods for measuring things are common to all sciences. Advances sometimes depend more on how something was done than on what was measured; indeed a given field often progresses from one technique to another as new methods are discovered, developed, and modified. Just as often, some of these techniques find their way into the classroom when the problems involved have been suffi ciently ironed out to permit students to master the manipulations in a few lab oratory periods. Many specialized techniques are confined to one specific research laboratory. Although methods may be considered commonplace where they are used, in another context even the simplest procedures may save considerable time. It is the purpose of this series (1) to report new developments in methodology, (2) to reveal sources of groups who have dealt with and solved particular entomo logical problems, and (3) to describe experiments which may be applicable for use in biology laboratory co~rses. |

devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Pressure Swing Adsorption Douglas M. Ruthven, S. Farooq, Kent S. Knaebel, 1996-12-17 Pressure Swing Adsorption is the first book that provides a coherent and concise summary of the underlying science and technology of pressure swing adsorption (PSA) processes at a level understandable to the practising engineer. PSA has achieved widespread commercial acceptance as the technology of choice for hydrogen purification, air separation and small scale air driers. However, PSA has numerous other actual and potential uses such as the recovery of methane from landfill gas, the production of carbon dioxide and other large scale applications. Since the design and optimization of a PSA process requires a somewhat mathematical model, two chapters of the book provide in-depth information on equilibrium theory and dynamic numerical simulation. However, this mathematical material will also help the general reader develop an understanding of the principles and strenghts and limitations of various approaches. PSA engineers, chemical engineers, environmental chemists, academicians and managers who must make informed decisions about purchasing costly PSA systems will find Pressure Swing Adsorption of particular value. |

devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Managing Newborn Problems World Health Organization. Reproductive Health and Research, 2003-12-31 Every year throughout the world, about four million babies die before they reach one month old, most during the critical first week of life. Most of these deaths are a result of the poor health and nutritional status of the mother, combined with problems such as tetanus or asphyxia, trauma, low birth weight, or preterm birth. However, many of the conditions which result in perinatal death are preventable or treatable without the need for expensive technology. Against this background, this publication contains guidance on evidence-based standards for high quality care provision during the newborn period, considering the needs of mother and baby. It has been produced to assist countries with limited resources to reduce neonatal mortality. The information is arranged under four main headings: clinical assessment, findings and management; principles of newborn baby care; procedures; record keeping and essential equipment, supplies and drugs. |

devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Field Guide on Rapid Nutritional Assessment in Emergencies World Health Organization. Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, 1995 A spiral-bound guide describing a simple step-by-step procedure for carrying out a rapid survey of nutritional status in emergency situations in Eastern Mediterranean countries, where natural and man-made disasters have been common. Emphasis is placed on the steps required to make quick but reliable estimates as a basis for subsequent action. Throughout, checklists, model forms, reference charts, and tables are used to facilitate rapid data collection in emergency situations. Decisions concerning the recommended minimum sample size, survey participants, and the level of analysis needed were made with the goal of striking a balance between the methodologically appropriate and the logistically feasible. The recommended method is based on simple anthropometric data and limited to children of preschool age. The result is a series of steps, appropriate to field conditions that can be followed by individuals with little statistical or epidemiological training and can produce the essential data needed for immediate decisions and interventions. The guide has eight chapters, moving stepwise from selection of the survey subjects, and sample through collection of data on weight-for-height to the recording analysis and interpretation of results. Further practical guidance in provided in a series of eight annexes, which include examples of systematic and cluster sampling, the CDC/WHO normalized reference table of weight-for-height, mean Z-scores, and corresponding prevalences below -2 Z scores, a list of equipment, and advice on using Epi-Info software for data analysis. |

devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Surgical Care at the District Hospital World Health Organization, 2003-07-21 Many patients who present to district (first-referral) level hospitals require surgical treatment for trauma, obstetric, abdominal or orthopedic emergencies. Often surgery cannot be safely postponed to allow their transfer to a secondary or tertiary-level hospital but many district hospitals in developing countries have no specialist surgical teams and are staffed by medical, nursing, and paramedical personnel who perform a wide range of surgical procedures often with inadequate training. The quality of surgical and acute care is often further constrained by poor facilities, inadequate low-technology apparatus and limited supplies of drugs, materials, and other essentials. The mission of the team responsible for Clinical Procedures in the World Health Organization Department of Essential Health Technologies (EHT) is to promote the quality of clinical care through the identification, promotion and standardization of appropriate procedures, equipment and materials, particularly at district hospital level. WHO/BCT has identified education and training as a particular priority, especially for non-specialist practitioners who practice surgery and anesthesia. It has therefore developed Surgical Care at the District Hospital as a practical resource for individual practitioners and for use in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in-service training and continuing medical education programs. The manual is a successor of three earlier publications that are widely used throughout the world and that remain important reference texts: General Surgery at the District Hospital (WHO 1988), Surgery at the District Hospital: Obstetrics Gynecology Orthopedics and Traumatology (WHO 1991), Anesthesia at the District Hospital (WHO 1988; second edition 2000). This new manual draws together material from these three publications into a single volume which includes new and updated material, as well as material from Managing Complications in Pregnancy and Childbirth: A Guide for Midwives and Doctors (WHO 2000). |
devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Oxygen Therapy for Children World Health Organization, 2016 Hypoxaemia is a major contributor to child deaths that occur worldwide each year; for a child with pneumonia hypoxaemia increases the risk of death by up to 5 times. Despite its importance in virtually all types of acute severe illness, hypoxaemia is often not well recognized or well managed, more so in settings where resources are limited. Oxygen therapy remains an inaccessible luxury for a large proportion of severely ill children admitted to hospitals in developing countries. This is particularly true for patients in small district hospitals, where, even if some facility for delivering oxygen is available, supplies are often unreliable and the benefits of treatment may be diminished by poorly maintained, inappropriate equipment or poorly trained staff with inadequate guidelines. Increasing awareness of these problems is likely to have considerable clinical and public health benefits in the care of severely ill children. Health workers should be able to know the clinical signs that suggest the presence of hypoxaemia and have more reliable means of detection of hypoxeamia. This can be achieved through more widespread use of pulse oximetry, which is a non-invasive measure of arterial oxygen saturation. At the same time oxygen therapy must be more widely available; in many remote settings, this can be achieved by use of oxygen concentrators, which can run on regular or alternative sources of power. Having effective systems for the detection and management of hypoxaemia are vital in reducing mortality from pneumonia and other severe acute illnesses. Oxygen therapy is essential to counter hypoxaemia and many times is the difference between life and death. This manual focuses on the availability and clinical use of oxygen therapy in children in health facilities by providing the practical aspects for health workers, biomedical engineers, and administrators. It addresses the need for appropriate detection of hypoxaemia, use of pulse oximetry, clinical use of oxygen and delivery systems and monitoring of patients on oxygen therapy. In addition, the manual addresses practical use of pulse oximetry, and oxygen concentrators and cylinders in an effort to improve oxygen systems worldwide.--Publisher's description. |

devilbiss 10 liter oxygen concentrator manual pdf: Aging Methods and Protocols Yvonne A. Barnett, Christopher R. Barnett, 2010-11-09 Aging is an almost universal process within biological systems, one which leads to a decline in functional capacity, disease onset, and eventually death. There has been much interest in recent years to elucidate the molecular mec- nisms that underlie the aging process. Many theories have been proposed since the last century that aim to explain the causes of aging. There is no one theory that completely satisfies the phenotype of aging, but genetics and environm- tal factors play an important role in the etiology of age-related pathologies and the aging process. However, there is still much to be learned about the aging process which has been termed one of the last great frontiers in biology. De- graphic changes worldwide are leading to increased average life expectancies within our populations. These changes in population characteristics will impact upon the economies of the supporting society, with increasing healthcare and infrastructural costs arising from the prevalence of age-related pathologies and other physical disabilities associated with advancing years. Many researchers worldwide are working in the attempt to identify key cellular processes through which it might one day be possible to slow down the aging process and thus increase the health span of humans. Numerous research projects—from the cellular through to tissue, organ, and whole organism studies—are currently underway to investigate the mul- factorial aging process. |
