diagram how to cross stitch: The Mr X Stitch Guide to Cross Stitch Jamie Chalmers, 2017-08-01 If you think you know what cross stitch is, look again! Jamie Chalmers, aka Mr X Stitch, shows you how to cross stitch using simple step-by-step instructions and also takes you to the frontiers of cross stitch design. The book is aimed at stitchers of all abilities, from absolute beginners looking to learn a new craft to embroiderers and cross stitchers who want to do something different in cross stitching. For many, cross stitch conjures up images of cute kittens and country cottages, but this book shows people that theres a different side to cross stitching that its an art in its own right, and will encourage them to be a little braver with their art. Jamies writing style is fun, entertaining and highly inspirational. The book aims to appeal to men as well as women, encouraging one and all to take up the ancient craft. It teaches the basics of cross stitching, including information on materials, tools, techniques and colour blending, but also puts Jamies own individual spin on it, with urban flavours and the introduction of different materials such as glow-in-the-dark threads and stitching on metal. As well as providing exciting designs to stitch, there is guidance on how to create cross stitch designs of your own, for example by using photographs and other images for reference. Jamie also showcases the work of other contemporary cross stitchers who are pushing the boundaries of their craft, and introduces more than 20 stunning cutting-edge projects to make, showing that beauty, innovation and 'craftivism' are alive and kicking in this inspirational book. |

Featuring 50 easy-to-make designs—both brand-new patterns and fan favorites—stitched together with trademark wit. Don't freak out. Don't make this about you. May your life be as amazing as you pretend it is on Facebook. What fresh hell is this? Not today, Satan. Super Subversive Cross Stitch is here to provide crafters with the snarky inspirations they love to stitch. The book features 50 patterns—23 brand-new designs and 27 fan favorites—along with easy-to-follow instructions for the beginner and fonts and designs for adventurous crafters looking to customize their creations. Less messy than graffiti, Super Subversive Cross Stitch allows crafters to adorn walls with political pith and irreverent twists on classic quotes (I think, therefore I drink, Let the good times be gin). “This book reminds me that I'm not alone in being crafty and sweary all at the same time. Pass the gin.” —Jenny Lawson, New York Times–bestselling author of Furiously Happy, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, and Broken Julie is the true OG of the subversive cross-stitch movement. Modern cross-stitch design would not be what it is today without her. She is a positive and supportive force in the cross-stitch community, providing mentorship to other designers and welcoming new stitchers into the hobby. I am so excited about her new book! —Stephanie Rohr, author of Feminist Cross-Stitch |
diagram how to cross stitch: Cross Stitching Tatyana Williams, 2015-03-12 Cross Stitching Learn How to Cross Stitch Simple and Easy Pictures, Patterns, and Shapes Cross stitch is a method of embroidery in which stitches are sewn in a tiled pattern to form letters or images. It is comparable to modern digital images created using pixels. The earliest American example of this work is from the 1600's, but there are likely European examples which are much older. Cross stitch embroidery was often used to personalize and embellish useful household items such as napkins and dish cloths. However, it evolved into use for more decorative purposes, as well. It is now more frequently used to create images and sayings on pillow covers and wall hangings. Because of the way the thread is precariously anchored, it is generally not used on clothing. There are several methods for threading the needle, for beginning the piece, for working the actual stitches and also for finishing the piece. There is not so much a right and wrong way so much as there are ways that will look the best and ways which may be easier, but do not look as good. The best way to start cross stitch is the old-fashioned way. Make your own pattern on a piece of graph paper, practice each style of stitching and create a sampler for reference. A sampler is a piece of cross stitch embroidery that was often made by young girls who were first learning the craft in order to practice their stitching while simultaneously creating a reference card for all the stitches they had learned. It was often decorative, as well, showcasing the alphabet, numbers 0-9, their name or perhaps a simple picture. Cross Stitching Here Is A Preview Of What You'll Learn... Cross Stitch History Thread Basics Fabric Needle Basics Common Stitches How to Get Started Tips and Tricks Basic Patterns to Get You Started Much, much more! Thank You for Choosing This Book |
