electrical engineering georgia tech: Graph Theoretic Methods in Multiagent Networks Mehran Mesbahi, Magnus Egerstedt, 2010-07-01 This accessible book provides an introduction to the analysis and design of dynamic multiagent networks. Such networks are of great interest in a wide range of areas in science and engineering, including: mobile sensor networks, distributed robotics such as formation flying and swarming, quantum networks, networked economics, biological synchronization, and social networks. Focusing on graph theoretic methods for the analysis and synthesis of dynamic multiagent networks, the book presents a powerful new formalism and set of tools for networked systems. The book's three sections look at foundations, multiagent networks, and networks as systems. The authors give an overview of important ideas from graph theory, followed by a detailed account of the agreement protocol and its various extensions, including the behavior of the protocol over undirected, directed, switching, and random networks. They cover topics such as formation control, coverage, distributed estimation, social networks, and games over networks. And they explore intriguing aspects of viewing networks as systems, by making these networks amenable to control-theoretic analysis and automatic synthesis, by monitoring their dynamic evolution, and by examining higher-order interaction models in terms of simplicial complexes and their applications. The book will interest graduate students working in systems and control, as well as in computer science and robotics. It will be a standard reference for researchers seeking a self-contained account of system-theoretic aspects of multiagent networks and their wide-ranging applications. electrical engineering georgia tech: Introduction to Computing Systems Yale N. Patt, Sanjay J. Patel, 2005 Introduction to Computing Systems: From bits & gates to C & beyond, now in its second edition, is designed to give students a better understanding of computing early in their college careers in order to give them a stronger foundation for later courses. The book is in two parts: (a) the underlying structure of a computer, and (b) programming in a high level language and programming methodology. To understand the computer, the authors introduce the LC-3 and provide the LC-3 Simulator to give students hands-on access for testing what they learn. To develop their understanding of programming and programming methodology, they use the C programming language. The book takes a motivated bottom-up approach, where the students first get exposed to the big picture and then start at the bottom and build their knowledge bottom-up. Within each smaller unit, the same motivated bottom-up approach is followed. Every step of the way, students learn new things, building on what they already know. The authors feel that this approach encourages deeper understanding and downplays the need for memorizing. Students develop a greater breadth of understanding, since they see how the various parts of the computer fit together. |

electrical engineering georgia tech: Rotating Machinery Getu Hailu, 2020-01-08 Rotating machinery or turbomachinery is a machine with a rotating component that transfers energy to a fluid or vice versa. Rotating machines are one of the most widely used machines. They are used in everyday life, at least once a day. We find a turbomachine (fan) in a hair dryer and in a computer. We find a turbomachine (pump) in a refrigerator. Other commonly used household machines are clothes washers and dish washers. These machines need to drain the dirty water and replace with clean water. To do so an important component of these machines is a pump that is used to remove the dirty water. A water pump (hydrodynamic pump) is also essential to our car?s operation by maintaining an optimum operating temperature of the engine. The pump ensures that the coolant keeps circulating through the engine block, hoses and radiator, and maintains an optimum operating temperature. Turbomachines are also key machines used in power generation, fluid transportation, the processing industry and energy conversion. This book presents recent developments in improving the aero-thermal performance and the efficiencies of rotating machines. |

electrical engineering georgia tech: Fundamentals of Electromagnetics for Electrical and Computer Engineering Nannapaneni Narayana Rao, 2011-11-21 This is the eBook of the printed book and may not include any media, website access codes, or print supplements that may come packaged with the bound book. Fundamentals of Electromagnetics for Electrical and Computer Engineering, First Edition is appropriate for all beginning courses in electromagnetics, in both electrical engineering and computer engineering programs. This is ideal for anyone interested in learning more about electromagnetics. Dr. N. Narayana Rao has designed this compact, one-semester textbook in electromagnetics to fully reflect the evolution of technologies in both electrical and computer engineering. This book’s unique approach begins with Maxwell’s equations for time-varying fields (first in integral and then in differential form), and also introduces waves at the outset. Building on these core concepts, Dr. Rao treats each category of fields as solutions to Maxwell’s equations, highlighting the frequency behavior of physical structures. Next, he systematically introduces the topics of transmission lines, waveguides, and antennas. To keep the subject’s geometry as simple as possible, while ensuring that students master the physical concepts and mathematical tools they will need, Rao makes extensive use of the Cartesian coordinate system. Topics covered in this book include: uniform plane wave propagation; material media and their interaction with uniform plane wave fields; essentials of transmission-line analysis (both frequency- and time-domain); metallic waveguides; and Hertzian dipole field solutions. Material on cylindrical and spherical coordinate systems is presented in appendices, where it can be studied whenever relevant or convenient. Worked examples are presented throughout to illuminate (and in some cases extend) key concepts; each chapter also contains a summary and review questions. (Note: this book provides a one-semester alternative to Dr. Rao’s classic textbook for two-semester courses, Elements of Engineering Electromagnetics, now in its Sixth Edition.) |

electrical engineering georgia tech: Signals and Systems Chi-Tsong Chen, 2004 The third edition of Signals and Systems prepares students for real-world engineering applications. It is concise, focused, and practical. The text introduces basic concepts in signals and systems and their associated mathematical and computational tools. It also stresses the most important concepts in signal analysis (frequency spectra) and system analysis (stability and frequency responses) and uses them throughout, including the study of seismometers and accelerometers. Signals and Systems, 3/e, introduces every term carefully and develops every topic logically. It distinguishes amplitudes and magnitudes, as well as lumped and distributed systems. It presents engineering concepts as early as possible and discusses transform theory only as needed. Also, the text employs transfer functions and state-space equations only in the contexts where they are most efficient. Transfer functions are used exclusively in qualitative analysis and design, and state-space equations are used exclusively in computer computation and op-amp circuit implementation. Thus, the students' time is focused on learning only what can be immediately used. Including an author commentary on the best way to approach the text, Signals and Systems, 3/e, is ideal for sophomore- and junior-level undergraduate courses in systems and signals. It assumes a background in general physics (including simple circuit analysis), simple matrix operations, and basic calculus. |
