enfamil a+ 0-6 months feeding guide: The Role of the Media in Promoting and Reducing Tobacco Use National Cancer Institute, U.s. Department of Health and Human Services, National Institues of Health, 2012-06-23 The National Institutes of Health Publication 07-6242, The Role of the Media in Promoting and Reducing Tobacco Use, NCI Tobacco Control Monograph 19, (the 19th of the Tobacco Control Monograph series of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) provides a critical, scientific review and synthesis of current evidence regarding the power of the media both to encourage and discourage tobacco use. The work presented is the most current and comprehensive distillation of the scientific literature on media communications in tobacco promotion and tobacco control. The six main parts of this monograph deal with aspects of media communications relevant to tobacco promotion and tobacco control. Part 1, an overview, frames the rationale for the monograph's organization and presents the key issues and conclusions of the research as a whole and of the individual chapters. This section describes media research theories that guided this assessment of the relationship between media and tobacco use, which can be viewed as a multilevel issue ranging from consumer-level advertising and promotion to stakeholder-level marketing aimed toward retailers, policymakers, and others. Part 2 further explores tobacco marketing—the range of media interventions used by the tobacco industry to promote its products, such as brand advertising and promotion, as well as corporate sponsorship and advertising. This section also evaluates the evidence for the influence of tobacco marketing on smoking behavior and discusses regulatory and constitutional issues related to marketing restrictions. Part 3 explores how both the tobacco control community and the tobacco industry have used news and entertainment media to advocate their positions and how such coverage relates to tobacco use and tobacco policy change. The section also appraises evidence of the influence of tobacco use in movies on youth smoking initiation. Part 4 focuses on tobacco control media interventions and the strategies, themes, and communication designs intended to prevent tobacco use or encourage cessation, including opportunities for new media interventions. This section also synthesizes evidence on the effectiveness of mass media campaigns in reducing smoking. Part 5 discusses tobacco industry efforts to diminish media interventions by the tobacco control community and to use the media to oppose state tobacco control ballot initiatives and referenda. Finally, Part 6 examines possible future directions in the use of media to promote or to control tobacco use and summarizes research needs and opportunities. Key lessons from this volume can inform policymakers as well as scientists and practitioners. Most critical from a policy standpoint is the conclusion, supported by strong evidence, that both exposure to tobacco marketing and depictions of tobacco in movies promote smoking initiation. In the United States in 2005—the same year in which 2.7 million American adolescents aged 12 to 17 used cigarettes in the past month1 and 438,000 Americans died prematurely from diseases caused by tobacco use or secondhand smoke exposure2—the tobacco industry spent $13.5 billion (in 2006 dollars) on cigarette advertising and promotion,3 an average of $37 million per day. The tobacco industry continues to succeed in overcoming partial restrictions on tobacco marketing in the United States, and tobacco marketing remains pervasive and effective in promoting tobacco use. Efforts to curb the depiction of tobacco use in movies have increased in recent years, and the evidence reviewed here indicates that progress in this area could be expected to translate into lower rates of youth smoking initiation in the future. Strong evidence indicates that media campaigns can reduce tobacco use. This volume highlights the complexities of assessing the media's influence on tobacco-related attitudes and behavior. A vast range of research is reviewed.~
enfamil a+ 0-6 months feeding guide: Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Health and Medicine Division, Food and Nutrition Board, Committee on Scoping Existing Guidelines for Feeding Recommendations for Infants and Young Children Under Age 2, 2020-09-28 Recommendations for feeding infants and young children have changed substantially over time owing to scientific advances, cultural influences, societal trends, and other factors. At the same time, stronger approaches to reviewing and synthesizing scientific evidence have evolved, such that there are now established protocols for developing evidence-based health recommendations. However, not all authoritative bodies have used such approaches for developing infant feeding guidance, and for many feeding questions there is little or no sound evidence available to guide best practices, despite the fact that research on infant and young child feeding has expanded in recent decades. Summarizing the current landscape of feeding recommendations for infants and young children can reveal the level of consistency of existing guidance, shed light on the types of evidence that underpin each recommendation, and provide insight into the feasibility of harmonizing guidelines. Feeding Infants and Children from Birth to 24 Months collects, compares, and summarizes existing recommendations on what and how to feed infants and young children from birth to 24 months of age. This report makes recommendations to stakeholders on strategies for communicating and disseminating feeding recommendations.

enfamil a+ 0-6 months feeding guide: Social Marketing Gerard Hastings, Christine Domegan, 2017-11-02 Social Marketing involves the application of marketing techniques (usually associated with promoting consumption) to social ends. This new addition will arm the socially conscious marketing student with: Case studies from across the globe, accessible exercises, engaging stories and online support with an expanded and enhanced companion website which will all enable you to think critically about the individual and systemic drivers of both harm and progress, and provide you with the tools to act. This popular introductory textbook has been thoroughly updated to enable students to challenge the bad, champion the good and become rebels with a cause. Now including more on systems thinking, evaluation and apps, Hastings and Domegan also introduce the influential new 3Cs model (Containment, Counter-Marketing, Critical Capacity Building). This book is essential reading for all social marketing, marketing ethics, and marketing and society courses. Cover Picture: 'La Sardane de la Paix’ by Pablo Picasso. The sardane is a traditional circle dance from Catalonia which has come to symbolise the struggle of ordinary people against oppression, from Napoleon through Hitler and Franco and into the modern era. The individual dancer holds his or her hands in the air in a gesture of autonomy and empowerment, and is able to maintain what would quickly become a tiring stance thanks to the supporting hands of her fellow-dancers. It illustrates the key social marketing lesson that addressing complex social problems, such as climate change or inequalities – as with dictators - requires a combination of individual agency and collective action. It also shows that critical analysis, the questioning and challenging of the current system, lies at the heart of progressive social change, and that good social marketers should be rebels with a cause.

Often elegant, often visceral, always essential' Musa Okwonga Journalism in the UK is 94 per cent white and 55 per cent male, while only 0.4 per cent of journalists are Muslim and 0.2 per cent are Black. The publishing industry’s statistics are equally dire. Many publications will use British Black, Indigenous People of Colour when it’s convenient; typically, when the region the writer represents is topical and newsworthy. Otherwise, their voices are left muted. Haramacy amplifies under-represented voices. Tackling topics previously left unspoken, this anthology offers a space for writers to explore ideas that mainstream organisations overlook. Focusing on the experiences of twelve Middle Eastern and South Asian writers, the essays explore visibility, invisibility, love, strength and race, painting a picture of what it means to feel fractured - both in the UK and back home. Appreciating both heritage and adopted home, the anthology highlights the various shades that make up our society. The title, Haramacy, is an amalgamation of the Arabic word ‘haram’, meaning indecent or forbidden, and the English word ‘pharmacy’, implying a safe, trustworthy space that prescribes the antidote to ailments caused by intersectional, social issues. The book features contributions by novelists, journalists, and artists including Aina J. Khan, Ammar Kalia, Cyrine Sinti, Joe Zadeh, Kieran Yates, Nasri Atallah, Nouf Alhimiary, Saleem Haddad and Sanjana Varghese, as well as essays by editors Dhruva Balram, Tara Joshi and Zahed Sultan.

enfamil a+ 0-6 months feeding guide: Feeding and Nutrition in the Preterm Infant Elizabeth A. Jones, 2005 Caring for preterm infants involves providing them with the best nutrition. Growing evidence over the last decade has consistently shown that human milk is better absorbed and tolerated than formula and gives many significant advantages over artificial substitutes. Mammary development, however, is immature for many mothers who deliver prematurely. This poses a number of challenges to health professionals involved in caring for the preterm infant. When a mother's lactation fails it is often due to a lack of simple evidence-based guidance and support. However, many of the challenges involved in the transition of these infants from tube to successful oral feeding can be overcome with the correct assessment and intervention. Feeding and Nutrition in the Preterm Infant addresses these issues and provides evidence-based guidelines on neonatal feeding and milk expression. This book has been written as a handbook for professionals to ensure safe and effective practice in this field. There is an evidence-based section on milk expression as well as information on maternal diet, milk storage and sequence of use. This is a practical yet comprehensive guide to best practice in providing optimum nutrition to the preterm infant. It also aims to ensure that safe and effective feeding skills are achieved.--BOOK JACKET.
