epoxy technology coatings e-tech: High Solid Binders Mircea Manea, 2009-01-15 To conserve resources, protect the environment, and yet formulate high performance coatings at an acceptable cost: these challenges are readily met by high solids. Such systems are the epitome of high performance and low environmental impact. They are usually the best option where solvent-borne systems would otherwise be the only choice. This book delivers comprehensive knowledge in the field of high solid systems. More especially, it provides an overview of the various classes of binders and ways of transforming them into high solid binders. It lists a broad range of options and approaches for tackling technological and environmental problems.
epoxy technology coatings e-tech: Encapsulation Technologies for Electronic Applications Haleh Ardebili, Michael G. Pecht, 2009-07-22 Electronics are used in a wide range of applications including computing, communication, biomedical, automotive, military and aerospace. They must operate in varying temperature and humidity environments including indoor controlled conditions and outdoor climate changes. Moisture, ionic contamination, heat, radiation and mechanical stresses are all highly detrimental to electronic devices and can lead to device failures. Therefore, it is essential that the electronic devices be packaged for protection from their intended environments, as well as to provide handling, assembly, electrical and thermal considerations. Currently, more than 99% of microelectronic devices are plastic encapsulated. Improvements in encapsulant materials, and cost incentives have stretched the application boundaries for plastic electronic packages. Many electronic applications that traditionally used hermetic packages such as military are now using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) plastic packages. Plastic encapsulation has the advantages of low cost, smaller form factors, and improved manufacturability. With recent trends in environmental awareness, new environmentally friendly or ' green' encapsulant materials (i.e. without brominated additives) have emerged. Plastic packages are also being considered for use in extreme high and low temperature electronics. 3-D packaging and wafer-level-packaging (WLP) require unique encapsulation techniques. Encapsulant materials are also being developed for micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS), bio-MEMS, bio-electronics, and organic light-emitting diodes (O-LEDs). This book offers a comprehensive discussion of encapsulants in electronic applications. The main emphasis is on the encapsulation of microelectronic devices; however, the encapsulation of connectors and transformers is also addressed. This book discusses 2-D and 3-D packaging and encapsulation, encapsulation materials including environmentally friendly 'green' encapsulants, and the properties and characterization of encapsulants. Furthermore, this book provides an extensive discussion on defects and failures related to encapsulation, how to analyze such defects and failures, and how to apply quality assurance and qualification process for encapsulated packages. This book also provides information on the trends and challenges of encapsulation and microelectronic packages including application of nanotechnology. - Guidance on the selection and use of encapsulants in the electronics industry, with a particular focus on microelectronics - Coverage of environmentally friendly 'green encapsulants' - Practical coverage of faults and defects: how to analyze them and how to avoid them

epoxy technology coatings e-tech: Fluidized-bed Coating with Plastics Plastics Technical Evaluation Center (U.S.), Arthur H. Landrock, 1964 This report on the relatively new field of fluidized-bed coating with plastics is intended to give military agencies and contractors a good idea of the possibilities and limitations of the technique. In the normal use of the process a metal part is heated to a temperature somewhat higher than the melting point of the resin powder with which it is to be coated. Upon immersion of the preheated metal part into a bed or bath of resin powder, usually kept at room temperature and fluidized by a current of air, the powder particles are fused onto the surface of the part. Postheating may or may not be necessary to smooth and/or cure the coating. This report has detailed information on 139 references, including 39 foreign and American patents. (Author).
epoxy technology coatings e-tech: Handbook of Polymer Coatings for Electronics James J. Licari, Laura A. Hughes, 1990-12-31 This completely revised edition remains the only comprehensive treatise on polymer coatings for electronics. Since the original edition, the applications of coatings for the environmental protection of electronic systems have greatly increased, largely driven by the competitive need to reduce costs, weight and volume. The demands for high-speed circuits for the rapid processing of signals and data, high-density circuits for the storage and retrieval of megabits of memory, and the improved reliability required of electronics for guiding and controlling weapons and space vehicles have triggered the development of many new and improved coating polymers and formulations. Both the theoretical aspects of coatings (molecular structure of polymer types and their correlation with electrical and physical properties) and applied aspects (functions, deposition processes, applications, testing) are covered in the book. Over 100 proprietary coating formulations were reviewed, their properties collated, and tables of comparative properties prepared. This book is useful as both a primer and as a handbook for collecting properties data.

epoxy technology coatings e-tech: Chemistry and Technology of Epoxy Resins Bryan Ellis, 2012-12-06 Epoxy resins have been commercially available for about 45 years and now have many major industrial applications, especially where technical advantages warrant their somewhat higher costs. The chemistry of these resins is fascinating and has attracted study by many very able scientists. The technological applications of the epoxy resins are very demanding and there are many new developments each year. The aims of the present book are to present in a compact form both theoretical and practical information that will assist in the study, research and innovations in the field of epoxy resin science and technology. The literature on epoxy resins is so vast that it is not possible to be encyclopaedic and that is not the function of the present text. It is the editor's hope that the selection of topics discussed will provide an up-to-date survey. There is some overlap in the chapters but this is minimal and so each chapter is essentially self contained. As with all chemicals there are toxicological and other hazards. These are not dealt with in this text since a little knowledge can be dangerous, but material supplied can provide information regarding any safety precautions that may be necessary. However, often these precautions are not onerous and epoxy resins, or more specifically the hardeners, can be handled readily. It is hoped that this text will provide an up-to-date outline of the science and technology of epoxy resins and stimulate further research into unsolved problems and assist further technological developments.
