anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Anatomy & Physiology Michael P. McKinley, Valerie Dean O'Loughlin, Theresa Stouter Bidle, 2021 Human anatomy and physiology is a fascinating subject. However, students can be overwhelmed by the complexity, the interrelatedness of concepts from different chapters, and the massive amount of material in the course. Our goal was to create a textbook to guide students on a clearly written and expertly illustrated beginner's path through the human body. An Integrative Approach One of the most daunting challenges that students face in mastering concepts in an anatomy and physiology course is integrating related content from numerous chapters. Understanding a topic like blood pressure, for example, requires knowledge from the chapters on the heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and how these structures are regulated by the nervous and endocrine systems. The usefulness of a human anatomy and physiology text is dependent in part on how successfully it helps students integrate these related concepts. Without this, students are only acquiring what seems like unrelated facts without seeing how they fit into the whole. To adequately explain such complex concepts to beginning students in our own classrooms, we as teachers present multiple topics over the course of many class periods, all the while balancing these detailed explanations with refreshers of content previously covered and intermittent glimpses of the big picture. Doing so ensures that students learn not only the individual pieces, but also how the pieces ultimately fit together. This book represents our best effort to replicate this teaching process. In fact, it is the effective integration of concepts throughout the text that makes this book truly unique from other undergraduate anatomy and physiology texts--

anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Anatomy Live Maaike Bleeker, 2008 Gross anatomy, the study of anatomical structures that can be seen by unassisted vision, has long been a subject of fascination for artists. For most modern viewers, however, the anatomy lesson—the technically precise province of clinical surgeons and medical faculties—hardly seems the proper breeding ground for the hybrid workings of art and theory. We forget that, in its early stages, anatomy pursued the highly theatrical spirit of Renaissance science, as painters such as Rembrandt and Da Vinci and medical instructors like Fabricius of Aquapendente shared audiences devoted to the workings of the human body. Anatomy Live: Performance and the Operating Theatre, a remarkable consideration of new developments on the stage, as well as in contemporary writings of theorists such as Donna Haraway and Brian Massumi, turns our modern notions of the dissecting table on its head—using anatomical theatre as a means of obtaining a fresh perspective on representations of the body, conceptions of subjectivity, and own knowledge about science and the stage. Critically dissecting well-known exhibitions like Body Worlds and The Visible Human Project and featuring contributions from a number of diverse scholars on such subjects as the construction of spectatorship and the implications of anatomical history, Anatomy Live is not to be missed by anyone with an interest in this engaging intersection of science and artistic practice.

anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Anatomy-Physiology & Yogic Practices Dr. Suresh Kumar Agarwal, 2024-02-02 This book serves as an all-encompassing guide to gaining knowledge of the architecture and operations of the human body. This book, which is written in English, offers a comprehensive understanding of a variety of systems, such as the skeletal, muscular, neurological, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems. Understanding the anatomy of yoga is very necessary to be able to teach and practice yoga without causing harm to oneself or other people. After this foundation has been established, it is feasible to concentrate on the spiritual aspect of yoga in addition to the physical aspect of the practice. As a result of the fact that yoga is a combination of the two, the more fundamental aspects of the practice are discussed in relation to the body whenever it is acceptable to do so. This book has been prepared in a manner that is easy to understand and clear, to direct the content primarily toward students. In addition to giving the reader a photographic memory, the information presented in the text has been enhanced with a large number of diagrams that are simple to reproduce and that provide a comprehensive explanation of the subject matter. To facilitate learning and comprehension, the textbook delivers key knowledge and ideas about anatomy and physiology in a way that is engaging and instructional. The subjects are in line with those that are required of students who are going to work in health-related professions.
anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Lab Manual to accompany McKinley's Anatomy & Physiology Main Version Michael McKinley, Dr., Valerie O'Loughlin, Theresa Bidle, 2021-01-27 Human anatomy and physiology is a complex yet fascinating subject, and is perhaps one of the most personal subjects a student will encounter during his or her education. It is also a subject that can create concern for students because of the sheer volume of material, and the misconception that it is all about memorization. The study of human anatomy and physiology really comes to life in the anatomy and physiology laboratory, where students get hands-on experience with human cadavers and bones, classroom models, preserved and fresh animal organs, histology slides of human tissues, and explore the process of scientific discovery through physiology experimentation. Yet, most students are at a loss regarding how to approach the anatomy and physiology laboratory. For example, students are often given numerous lists of structures to identify, histology slides to view, and wet labs to conduct, but are given comparatively little direction regarding how to recognize structures, or how to relate what they encounter in the laboratory to the material presented in the lecture. In addition, most laboratory manuals on the market contain little more than material repeated from anatomy and physiology textbooks, which provides no real benefit to a student. This laboratory manual takes a very focused approach to the laboratory experience, and provides students with tools to make the subject matter more relevant to their own bodies and to the world around them. Rather than providing a recap of material from classroom lectures and the main textbook for the course, this laboratory manual is much more of an interactive workbook for students: a how-to guide to learning human anatomy and physiology through touch, dissection, observation, experimentation, and critical thinking exercises. Students are guided to formulate a hypothesis about each experiment before beginning physiology exercises. Diagrams direct students in how to perform experiments, and don't just show the end results. The text is written in a friendly, conversational tone to put students at ease as they discover, organize, and understand the material presented in each chapter--
anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Course Guide for Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology Jason LaPres, Beth Kersten, 2022 Eighth Edition is designed for students who are enrolled in a one-semester course in human anatomy and physiology. The eighth edition has been substantially enhanced and improved. Added a Careers In section at the start of every chapter to show students how the chapter content relates to careers in the real world. Approximately 20 figures and tables were revised or are completely new.Revised descriptive language to improve the overall readability of the text. Terminology and phrasing more commonly used by students outside the classroom have been added where appropriate. By making the text easier to read, students will have an easier time grasping more complex anatomical and physiological content. Added the course guide of the 8th edition back into the lecture text to facilitate easier student use and completion. Updated terminology to align with the Terminologia Anatomica, Terminologia Histologica, and Terminologia Embryologica--

anatomy and physiology virtual labs: Virtual Reality Designs Adriana Peña Pérez Negrón, Graciela Lara López, Héctor Rafael Orozco Aguirre, 2020-03-12 Virtual Reality is not real life. Instead it is life-like creations using computer-generated scenarios. Human behavior is replicated in virtual scenarios, where every detail is controlled by computers, and in situations that can be repeated under the same conditions. Based on technology and design, the user can experience presence. In the virtual world, users are embodied in avatars that represent them and are the means to interact with the virtual environment. Avatars are graphical models that behave on behalf of the human behind them. The user avatar is a proxy that also backs interaction with others, allowing computer-mediated interactions. Analyses directed to understand people’s perceptions, personal and social behavior in computer mediated interactions, comprise a multidisciplinary area of study that involves, among others, computer science, psychology and sociology. In the last two decades a number of studies supported by Virtual Reality have been conducted to understand human behavior, in some cases the implications of the technology, or to reproduce artificial human behavior. This book presents a collection of studies from recognized researchers in the area.
