anatomy of a bull elk: Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science Jeff Meldrum, 2007-04-01 In this landmark work on a subject too often dismissed as paranormal or disreputable, Jeff Meldrum gives us the first book on sasquatch to be written by a scientist with impeccable academic credentials, an objective look at the facts in a field mined with hoaxes and sensationalism. Meldrum reports on the work of a team of experts from a wide variety of fields who were assembled to examine the evidence for a large, yet undiscovered, North American primate. He reviews the long history of this mystery--which long predates the bigfoot flap of the late fifties--and explains all the scientific pros and cons in a clear and accessible style, amplified by over 150 illustrations. Anyone who has pondered the mysteries of human evolution will be fascinated and eager to join Dr. Meldrum in drawing their own conclusion.   anatomy of a bull elk: The Saga of the Mackinnon Clan Dr. Jerry Love, 2014-03-26 This novel begins in the eighteenth century with the first generation of an imaginary extended Family and how well documented historical events prompt the family to seek a better way of life. The family initially resides in the British Isles and with the passage of time migrates to the new world in the United States. It continues with the adventures and experiences of two brothers who, after four years of combat in the Civil War, decide to establish a new life in the Wyoming Territory where they meet and marry two beautiful young ladies. The sensual love shared by one of the brothers and his beautiful bride on their wedding night is described in detail, a deep love they experience throughout their adult life. After building a successful cattle ranch, they are faced with challenges associated with prote9ting their property from politically active large ranching interests determined to annihilate them with every means at their disposal, whether inside or outside of the law. The determined intent of the large ranchers to destroy the small ranchers results in an all out war that is eventua1ly won by the small ranchers with the support of the duly elected law enforcement officials, determined to wipe out all illegal activities such as lynchings and cattle rustling. The principal activities of the novel occur in the northeastern frontier area of the Wyoming Territory, where the breathtaking Bighorn Mountains cast a shadow over the Powder River Basin, long recognized as one of the most desirable cattle grazing areas in the country. Although life on an isolated frontier ranch is often thought of as being very boring with an aster life style, there are many available amenities that the two brother and their two families thoroughly enjoy as described in the novel. These include country style dancing such as the polka, waltz, and the two step, hunting big game including elk, bighorn sheep, and antelope, horse-back riding, bird hunting, fly fishing for trout, and enjoyable experiences associated with visits to large western cities such as Denver and San Francisco.

anatomy of a bull elk: Give Me Eighty Men Shannon D. Smith, 2021-12-08 With eighty men I could ride through the entire Sioux nation. The story of what has become popularly known as the Fetterman Fight, near Fort Phil Kearney in present-day Wyoming in 1866, is based entirely on this infamous declaration attributed to Capt. William J. Fetterman. Historical accounts cite this statement in support of the premise that bravado, vainglory, and contempt for the fort's commander, Col. Henry B. Carrington, compelled Fetterman to disobey direct orders from Carrington and lead his men into a perfectly executed ambush by an alliance of Plains Indians. In the aftermath of the incident, Carrington's superiors--including generals Ulysses S. Grant and William T. Sherman--positioned Carrington as solely accountable for the massacre by suppressing exonerating evidence. In the face of this betrayal, Carrington's first and second wives came to their husband's defense by publishing books presenting his version of the deadly encounter. Although several of Fetterman's soldiers and fellow officers disagreed with the women's accounts, their chivalrous deference to women's moral authority during this age of Victorian sensibilities enabled Carrington's wives to present their story without challenge. Influenced by these early works, historians focused on Fetterman's arrogance and ineptitude as the sole cause of the tragedy. In Give Me Eighty Men, Shannon D. Smith reexamines the works of the two Mrs. Carringtons in the context of contemporary evidence. No longer seen as an arrogant firebrand, Fetterman emerges as an outstanding officer who respected the Plains Indians' superiority in numbers, weaponry, and battle skills. Give Me Eighty Men both challenges standard interpretations of this American myth and shows the powerful influence of female writers in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

anatomy of a bull elk: Tares Among the Wheat Volume Two H. Melvin James, 2019-12-09 “Tares among the Wheat” By “H. Melvin James” This second volume concludes the two established primary framed story-lines that traverse the entirety of the novel. Herein, mysteries of mysticism, religion, and ancient legend, as introduced in the previous book, are granted explanation and plausibility. As the story lines converge toward simultaneous conclusion at the end of the novel, other mysteries arise and are resolved. Events and experiences described in this volume include extremes of sorrow, horror, joy, and romance. In this saga, as in life, there are those who meet more suffering than comfort, but the balance of the aggregate, inevitably and eventually, tilts toward triumph, justice, peace, and contentment. Redemption, as in reality, is both compromised and realized. Episodes herein expose the cruelty of humanity as the torments of warriors and the crimes of civilians. Ultimately however, the unconquerable collective of human decency, determination, and faith prevails. Senseless murders punctuate the merciless decade of the horrific Dust Bowl and the Great Depression. In this volume those murders, as well as other crimes, fraud, assault, and theft, are brought to the justice of mortals, while the non-statutory transgressions of greed, power, vanity, and selfishness are left to the infallible and certain justice of the Almighty. Surprises for the reader, pleasing and teasing, are unveiled in this volume. These story lines also reclaim the obvious axiom, our predecessors often do not succeed for themselves, in their own lifetimes, but they plant the fields of wheat for their descendants to reap the harvest, and since no soul takes anything from this earth in his departing, is not one’s legacy the only true tangible success?
