It highlights the factors that should shape its progress in the near future. Interdisciplinary and critical views from a number of professionals are put together in a prescient order to cast some light and make recommendations as to the next steps HTA should take to be fit for purpose. A wealth of documents dealing with HTA have been published over the last three decades. HTA allegedly is one of the bedrocks of regulation and medical decision making. However, counter vailing visions contend that geographical variations in the role that HTA is actually playing within countries pinpoints specific room for improvement. Given our social preferences, cherry-picking HTA’s features and successes over the last decades moves it away from its possibility frontier. Some of the most noteworthy hindrances that HTA faces, in several countries, to making headway towards its consolidation as an efficient tool for regulation and decision making are as follows: insufficient resources, delays in assessment, inadequate priority setting, regulatory capture, public distrust, actual influence on regulatory decisions, the need for strengthening international cooperation and harmony, the lack of sound and consistent assessments of diagnostic tests, medical devices and surgical innovations and limited dissemination. Time has come for HTA to take a renewed stand. There is a pressing need to submit HTA to in-depth critical scrutiny. |

Croquet, 2016-01-12 The aim of this monograph is to analyze how the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court have resorted to proportionality and other limitation techniques when placing implied external limits upon the exercise of substantive and procedural human rights enjoyed by the accused and other actors affected by international criminal proceedings. Implied external limits in this context are defined as those limits that override the exercise of a human right on public interest grounds or on grounds relating to competing human rights and that either fall outside the scope of a limitation/qualification clause of an international criminal court's internal legal instruments or go beyond its express and ordinary terms. The present monograph will point to various sources of legal uncertainty which international criminal courts have generated in the limitation process of those human rights relevant to international criminal proceedings and to the definition of international crimes. The monograph will examine the relation between human rights, limitations on human rights standards and proportionality under international criminal procedural law and international criminal law (understood substantively) in light of the limitation and proportionality practices of international human rights monitoring bodies. |

Ho, 2024-09-30 Chronic diseases represent the leading causes of death and disability worldwide, with a subsequent enormous socioeconomic burden. The clinical management of these conditions often requires a multidisciplinary approach to treat the complex symptoms related to the disease and the associated problems. Different healthcare systems have been experimenting with interprofessional collaboration to enhance professional effectiveness and quality of practice among professionals, in an environment often constrained by resources. The optimum use of resources is made possible by interprofessional collaboration, which is described as an integrative cooperation of many health professions in different health disciplines, including medicine, nursing, physical therapy, psychology, and occupational therapy. It has been demonstrated that interprofessional care improves patient outcomes by lowering the rate of preventable adverse drug reactions, morbidity, and mortality, and optimising prescription dosages. However, despite the increasing evidence on the positive impact of integrative multidisciplinary programs for people with chronic diseases, there are still gaps and challenges in how to translate evidence-based knowledge into well-informed clinical practice. The aim of this Research Topic is to explore the current status and future direction of interprofessional care teams. We are open to receiving articles that explore interprofessional collaboration in the context of various clinical diagnoses, including; chronic pain, cancer, neurological ailments, psychiatric problems, or cardiorespiratory conditions. Also, the effects of new health technologies on interprofessional collaboration, such as virtual reality, mobile health apps, or telecare. |
