beartooth wildlife management area: Birding Trails Montana Robbins, Chuck, 2014-05-12 Montana is one of the great birding states, from sandhill cranes to prairie chickens and sage grouse. From 100,000 snow geese at a time on Freezeout Lake to western bluebirds, glossy ibis, white-tailed kites, crested caracaras, Iceland gulls, Carolina wrens, curve-billed thrashers, and hundreds of other song birds. Montana is the best place for both great birding and wildlife viewing. Many of the birding hot spots also have a wide variety of wildlife including elk, antelope, moose, and grizzly and black bears. Chuck Robbins has spent 20 years traveling the state birding and wildlife watching. Chuck has divided the state into six regions: Glacier Country, Southwest Montana, Central Montana, Yellowstone Country, Missouri River Country, and Southeast Montana. Chuck describes each of the birding locations, the key birds, the best seasons for birding, and the area description along with driving directions and GPS coordinates. There are six regional maps showing the birding locations in each region, along with over 70 maps of individual locations. More than 100 outstanding color photos of key birds are included. Montana is the fourth largest state with less than 1 million residents, offering great uncrowded birding opportunities. With two national parks (Glacier and Yellowstone), thirteen national wildlife refuges, hundreds of wildlife management areas, as well as state parks and 40 Montana Important Bird Areas (IBAs) Montana is a must place for incredible bird and wildlife watching.

beartooth wildlife management area: Montana Places John B. Wright, 2000 Explored by Lewis and Clark, fought over by Native Americans and settlers, mined for gold, copper, and coal, and eventually abandoned by the industries that made it, Montana has proven itself to be the most resilient of the nation's states. Montana Places looks at the dramatic beauty of Little Bighorn Battlefield and the Rocky Mountain Front Range, as well as the character of small towns, such as Jordan and Harlowtown, that have survived economic hardship. Today's Montana is a place where traditional religious groups like the Hutterites coexist with unorthodox organizations such as the Church Universal and Triumphant, where the descendants of miners live alongside Hollywood celebrities, and where self-proclaimed freemen tangle with government environmentalists over control of the land. Beginning where other travel guides leave off, Montana Places is certain to provide visitors to the west as well as armchair travelers a rich, fascinating look at today's Montana and how it came to be.

Willis Robertson. The Pittman-Robertson Act, as it came to be called, sped through Congress and was signed into law by President Franklin Roosevelt on September 2, 1937. From a modest beginning, the Pittman-Robertson program has grown with the economy and the human population of our country. By now it has channeled nearly $1.7 billion in Federal excise tax receipts, augmented by some $600 million from the States, into activities to restore wildlife. The projects include State acquisition of acreage needed to bring wildlife back, research into wildlife requirements and problems, active management of habitats, and development of scientific ways to enable wildlife and people to share our land in harmony. The program has strengthened State governments and built wildlife management into a respected profession.
