bible study on minor prophets: Gospel-Centered Kids Ministry Brian Dembowczyk, 2018-10-15 The story of Jesus interacting with the Emmaus disciples after his resurrection provides an outline for what a gospel-centered kids ministry looks like: gospel-centered teaching that points to Jesus in every session, gospel-centered transformation that positions the gospel to change a child's heart and then his or her behavior, and gospel-centered mission where kids join in on the big story of Jesus that continues to unfold. Seven out of ten kids will walk away from church after they turn eighteen. About five will return when they have families of their own. But two will never return. Clearly, something isn’t connecting with our kids. As kids ministry leaders, we need to take a hard look at what we are missing in our kids ministries and provide kids the one thing that will satisfy them and keep them connected to the church—the gospel. Gospel-Centered Kids Ministry also addresses how to communicate with and encourage gospel-centered leaders and parents as part of your ministry.

Dr. Feinberg's work illuminates the life, times, and major emphases of these men of God. Dr. Feinberg brings to this work an unusual combination of talents and background. In this work, he carefully presents his own views as well as dissenting views of other biblical scholars. These studies include full treatment of the historical and cultural settings of each of the twelve prophets and their writings.
bible study on minor prophets: Be Concerned (Minor Prophets) Warren W. Wiersbe, 2013-05-15 The truth in God’s word illuminates the sinful state of our fallen world. And throughout history that insight has moved believers from conviction to action, to share His truth with a world in need, to burden us with a deep concern for people. But how can we translate that concern into effective ministry? The prophets Amos, Obadiah, Micah, and Zephaniah were each called to deal courageously and honestly with the sin around them. This study explores how their concern for people shaped their life-changing messages of repentance and redemption. Part of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe’s best-selling “BE” commentary series, BE Concerned has now been updated with study questions and a new introduction by Ken Baugh. A respected pastor and Bible teacher, Dr. Wiersbe encourages us to take a balanced approach to personal evangelism, and challenges us to lovingly share truths that offer both conviction and hope.

bible study on minor prophets: Minor Prophets II (Understanding the Bible Commentary Series) John Goldingay, Pamela J. Scalise, 2012-07-01 The Minor Prophets are those dozen Old Testament books that, in the time of Jesus, were usually written on one scroll since they were all fairly brief. The late Elizabeth Achtemeier prepared the New International Biblical Commentary on the first six: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, and Micah. This second volume deals with the final six books. John Goldingay writes on Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, and Haggai; Pamela Scalise takes on the longest, Zechariah, and the last, Malachi. Like the authors of other volumes in the NIBC, Goldingay and Scalise utilize what is referred to as believing criticism when examining the biblical texts. Based on fidelity to critical analysis and sensitivity to the faith of both ancient and contemporary readers, this balanced approach enriches both the academy and the church. Following the series guidelines, the authors clearly explain the texts with additional notes regarding interpretation and practical reflection. For example, Goldingay issues a reminder that when the prophets spoke against the arrogance and sins of Assyria and Babylon, the Israelites needed to hear the word of God as a caution against their own pride and wickedness. He goes on to suggest that modern readers must remember, as well, that the same attitudes and actions that led to the downfall of these ancient Middle East empires can fall upon any and all who follow their example. The New International Biblical Commentary offers the best of contemporary scholarship in a format that both general readers and serious students can use with profit. Based on the widely used New International Version translation, the NIBC presents careful section-by-section exposition with key terms and phrases highlighted and all Hebrew transliterated. A separate section of notes at the close of each chapter provides additional textual, linguistic, cultural, and technical comments. Each commentary also includes a selected bibliography as well as Scripture and subject indexes.
bible study on minor prophets: Be Heroic (Minor Prophets) Warren W. Wiersbe, 2010-09-01 We all admire the hero. That person who’s celebrated for accomplishing big things in the face of even bigger odds. Yet heroes aren’t defined by their circumstances, but by their choices. They’re people who continually choose to serve others, even when no one is watching, and without expecting credit. Based on the books of Ezra, Haggai, and Zechariah, this study examines three unsung heroes of the Bible who can inspire us today. Part of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe’s best-selling “BE” commentary series, BE Heroic has now been updated with study questions and a new introduction by Ken Baugh. A respected pastor and Bible teacher, Dr. Wiersbe shares small ways we can make a big impact. Because when it’s all about being a servant, we all have what it takes to be a hero.

bible study on minor prophets: Spotlight on the Minor Prophets: 12 Book Bundle James Paris, 2013-09-10 This is the full 12 Bible Study guide books in the 'Spotlight On The Minor Prophets' series; Jonah, Obadiah, Joel, Micah, Amos, Hosea, Nahum, Zephaniah, Habakkuk, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. Taken from a Christian standpoint, this is an introduction to the Old Testament Prophets, known commonly as the 'Minor Prophets'. This title in no way implies that they are inferior in any way to the giants amongst the prophets such as Isaiah or Ezekiel; but rather the word 'minor' merely applies to the brevity of the writings of these Old Testament prophets. Bible Study Guide for Group or Individual use These are not intended to be in-depth bible studies as such; but instead an introduction or summary of the Prophets, their times and influences both then and today. This short bible series on the Old Testament Prophets looked at from a New Testament Christian point of view, is intended for individual or group use, and I have found them useful for encouraging debate and conversation, on all the topics that affected the peoples at that time; and now affect ourselves in today's world. Studying the minor prophets reveals pearls of wisdom! Job states that As sure as sparks fly upwards, Man is born to trouble. The social and economic troubles that the ancients faced are the same ones as we face now. It has been said that if we do not learn from our mistakes, then we are doomed to repeat them. Perhaps it's time to listen to their problems and see what The Lord had to say through his spokesmen - whom we know as the 'Minor Prophets'. I for one fully believe that the guidance offered to these Old Testament characters, can for the most part be profitably applied by the New Testament Christian when looked upon in the light of the New Covenant that Christianity has to offer.

bible study on minor prophets: Love Worth Finding (Pack Of 25) Adrian Rogers, 1998-11-23 Psychologists have long known that every person has two great longings and inward needs. The first is to be loved, and the second is to love. But when pressures and heartaches come into our lives, many give up any hope of ever finding love. The tragedy is that we often look in the wrong places to fill this deep, deep need and longing. Some substitute lust for love. Others pursue material things or superficial relationships-all in the futile attempt to fill a God-shaped vacuum in the human heart. But there is good news! There is a love worth finding and a love worth sharing. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16). On the cross of Christ, God's mighty love was revealed and offered unconditionally to all who would be saved. Do you long to know this mighty love? Then I need to ask you the most important question you'll ever be asked: Do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God loves you, that your sins are forgiven, and that you are saved and on your way to heaven? The great news is, you can know! Let me share with you how to discover the greatest love worth finding. Admit Your Sin. First, you must admit that you are a sinner. The Bible says, There is none righteous, no, not one (Romans 3:10). For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). It is our sin that separates us from God and from fulfilling our deepest needs and longings. Sin is an offense against God that carries a serious penalty. According to Romans 6:23, The wages of sin is death [eternal separation from the love and mercy of God]. Abandon Your Efforts. Second, you must abandon any efforts to save yourself. If we could save ourselves, Jesus' death would have been unnecessary! Even getting religion cannot get you to heaven. The Bible says it is not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His [God's] mercy He saved us (Titus 3:5). Salvation is by God's grace, not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9). Acknowledge Christ's Payment. What you cannot do for yourself, Jesus Christ has done for you! But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). He died on the cross for you, and then rose from the dead to prove that His payment was acceptable to God. But you must acknowledge and believe this fact. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved (Acts 16:31). Accept Christ as Your Savior. Salvation is God's gift to you. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). When someone offers you a priceless gift, the wisest thing you can do is accept it! This very moment, you can receive Christ's gift of salvation by sincerely praying this simple prayer from your heart: Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that You love me and want to save me. Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God, who died on the cross to pay for my sins. I believe God raised You from the dead. I now turn from my sin and, by faith, receive You as my personal Lord and Savior. Come into my heart, forgive my sins, and save me, Lord Jesus. In Your name I pray. Amen. Friend, if you have not yet made a decision for Christ, I urge you to receive Him today. You'll be eternally glad to know the love worth finding!
