exams are round the corner: Dictionary of Idioms & Phrases Sugat Gewali, 2020-06-22 The Activity of learning idioms and pharses is not as easy as learning simple day to day English words or vocabulary but it is also not as hard as it at first seems to be. However, the Use of Pharses in the activity of writting or speaking can not be seen as less important than other common words or expressions . So it is important to have our knowledge of idioms and phrases and their correct meanings by learning them as thoroughly as any conversational English words and meaning given in the English Dictionary , or by practising them as much as we can to enhance our language competence. |
exams are round the corner: Teenage Parenting SEEMA GUPTA, 2013-01-02 Many kids announce the onset of adolescence with a dramatic change in their behaviour around their parents or elders. They begin to separate from their moms and dads and try to become more independent. At the same time, children of this age are increasingly aware of how others, especially their peers, see them and are desperately trying to fit into the current fads and trends. Moreover, there is a vast generation gap between the teenagers and their parents or elders. Times have changed and with the advent of new and modern developments in science and technology, life has become faster and easier. There has been a drastic transformation in our lifestyle, and this has in turn brought about considerable changes in our behaviour, dressing styles, eating habits, modes of recreation, etc. Hence, due to the above factors, there arises continuous conflict of thoughts, beliefs and values between the parents or elders and the teenagers irrespective of the families, religions, or strata of the society they belong to. The author in this book, Teenage Parenting has incorporated various such conflicts in the form of interesting Diary Entries from the diaries of different parents and teenagers reflecting their views and grievances on several subjects. Each of the Diary Entry is followed by a Parental Tip advising parents to deal intelligently and patiently according to the issue concerned. This is further complemented by an expert advice of a Counsellor, who acts as a judge providing an impartial and amicable solution to the problem in each case. So, this is a 'must read' for both the youngsters of today and their parents to bridge the generation gap which is deepening day by day. #v&spublishers |

exams are round the corner: The Sound of Waves ‘Kalki’ R. Krishnamurthy, 2022-12-05 A fractured country on the verge of freedom finds its people navigating the slippery crevices of love, morality and nationalism. To escape the despair of his all-consuming, failed relationship with Dharini, Raghavan agrees to meet Lalita for an arranged match. Finding Lalita's cousin, the vivacious and captivating Sita, a far more amenable fit, he marries her instead. With a charming wife and a powerful government job in pre-Partition Delhi adding to his smugness and conceit, Raghavan turns a blind eye to the evils of the British Raj. Along comes Sita's cousin Surya, a dauntless revolutionary burning to right the wrong. His commitment to the socialist credo leads him to Dharini, a young and spirited party member, the woman Raghavan continues to long for. Cracks appear in the brittle foundations of their lives as the characters move from rural Thanjavur, Madras, Bombay, Karachi, New Delhi, Agra and Calcutta to Lahore. With poignant detail and lyrical prose, Kalki's tour de force lays bare the emotions of ordinary people grappling with extraordinary changes, their circumstances riven with misfortunes, disasters and the carnage of Partition. The Sound of Waves is an impassioned tribute to everyday citizens and their woes, and an acute commentary on the aspirations of an emerging nation. This book by Gowri Ramnarayan is the English translation of the bestselling Tamil novel Alai Osai by freedom fighter and novelist Kalki Krishnamurthy (1899-1954). |

exams are round the corner: THIS DAY THAT YEAR K V Laxminarayan aka LAX, 2024-02-22 This Day That Year as a title came from a TV program of the 90s called “This Week That Year”, that I used to watch on TV. I could relate to it very well as I remembered the release dates of most of the movies of the late 60s and early 70s and when the host spoke about it, I went down my memory lane and loved the experience. Once I became part of Facebook in 2009, I found a great forum to share my experiences of movie releases in Bombay then and now Mumbai. I found a lot of like-minded people who could relate to my post and shared their experiences and thoughts as comments. Quite a few of them encouraged me to share it with a larger audience and hence suggested publishing it. I never thought of doing it but when people kept telling me regularly to do it, I decided to give it a try, and here comes my experiences and thoughts of the movies released in the late 60s and early 70s. Hope you like what you read, though many of the statements would look repetitive. But do accept the experiences of a teenager who turns into a man in 1973. |
