This manual governs the Air Force special trophies, awards, decorations and memorialization programs. In collaboration with the Chief of Air Force Reserve (AF/RE) and Director of the Air National Guard (NGB/CF), the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel, and Services (AF/A1) develops personnel policy for the Air Force Awards and Memorialization Program. Ensure all records created as a result of processes prescribed in this publication are maintained in accordance with Air Force Manual (AFMAN) 33-363, Management of Records, and disposed of in accordance with the Air Force Records Disposition Schedule located in the Air Force Records Information Management System.

He and 15,000 US troops land in Marseille under hectic and nerve-racking conditions. Those who survive begin the long walk to Munich, experiencing battle victories along the way, as well as further loss of fellow soldiers that total close to half of those that set foot in Marseille. During the last few months before discharge Tommy is assigned to Munich, the location of Hitlers Fhrerbau. There he is ordered to protect priceless works of art that Hitler had stolen until the items can be turned over to the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives personnel. During that time a Sergeant in Tommys platoon finds in the basement many personal items that belonged to Hitler; for example, two gold plated luger pistols inscribed to Hitler, a gold/ruby ring with a swastika and an ordinary looking desk with Hitlers initials and a swastika. Tommy takes an interest in the desk set and is given authorization to send the object to his parents as a War memento. In partial retirement, 40 years after World War II ends, Tommy Martin watches on television a RKO newsreel documentary that draws attention to Hitlers missing desk set, the far from ordinary item that was used to sign the 1938 Munich Pact. The narrator indicates the item has probably been destroyed, but if it still exists it is priceless. Tommy realizes he owns the lost item. Against the wishes of his wife he decides to find the value of the item. He teams up with his son and then later on meets a man who completes his inner circle. Disappointing leads and a trail of tears lead them nowhere as the trio runs into people who attempt to take advantage of them.

  dod manual 1348.33: D-Day General Noel F. Mehlo, 2021-05-15 Omaha was the make-or-break Allied beach on D-Day—in (perhaps) the make-or-break campaign of World War II. If American soldiers couldn’t gain a foothold there, then D-Day was unlikely to succeed. On June 6, 1944, U.S. troops on Omaha suffered the worst casualties of any of the five Allied invasion beaches—so many casualties, and so much tactical difficulty, that Omaha almost didn’t succeed. One big reason why Americans gained a foothold on Omaha was Gen. Norman “Dutch” Cota. A graduate of the West Point class of 1917 (alongside famous classmates Matthew Ridgway, Mark Clark, and Lightning Joe Collins), Norm Cota played football with Dwight Eisenhower, who graduated two years earlier. From March 1941 to February 1943, Cota served with the famous 1st Infantry Division, the Big Red One, as division intelligence officer, plans/training officer, and finally chief of staff. He performed so well in the North Africa campaign that he was sent to England to help plan D-Day. After laying the tactical groundwork for the amphibious landings, Cota was made assistant division commander of the 29th Infantry Division. On the eve of D-Day, he told his men, “You’re going to find confusion. The landing craft aren’t going in on schedule, and people are going to be landed in the wrong place. Some won’t be landed at all. . . . We must improvise, carry on, not lose our heads.” On June 6, 1944, under heavy fire, Cota landed with the second wave of the 29th Infantry Division on Omaha Beach, about an hour after the start of the invasion. He personally rallied the survivors of the landings and led the opening of one of the first exits off Omaha. Cota seemed to be everywhere that day. Coming upon a group of Rangers, the general told them, “Rangers, lead the way” (hence the Rangers’ motto). He is also known for saying, “Gentlemen, we are being killed on the beaches. Let us go inland and be killed.” And, to a captain uncertain how to proceed: “I’ll tell you what, captain.You and your men start shooting at them. I’ll take a squad of men, and you and your men watch carefully. I’ll show you how to take a house with Germans in it.” Having demonstrated the task, Cota asked the officer, “Do you understand? Do you know how to do it now? . . . I won’t be around to do it for you again. I can’t do it for everybody.” Great quips—which American military history will always remember and which show the character, in every sense, of Dutch Cota. Cota was a fighter—a fighting general, a D-Day general—and his contribution to D-Day will remain his rallying of demoralized troops and his blazing the trail toward the breakout and victory on Omaha. Ted Roosevelt Jr., who landed at Utah Beach, has always received credit as the D-Day general (like Cota, Roosevelt also demanded that he land on D-Day—and then died of a heart attack a month later), but Cota is the hero-general of the day, having landed early on D-Day on bloody Omaha. Portrayed by Robert Mitchum in the grand D-Day film The Longest Day, Cota has not yet received his due—and there’s a campaign now afoot to award him a belated Medal of Honor. Mobile Support Team TWO, Detachment Alpha, was a top secret United States Naval Special Warfare team, composed of specially trained personnel from Boat Support Unit One and from SEAL Team's ONE and TWO. In it's inseption,this team was code named Project Zulu. While a lot of what this group of men did is still classified, their main purpose was to disrupt enemy ambushes of PBR river boats and snatch and grab high ranking enemy officials. This was accomplished by counterambushing the enemy deep within the forbidden reaches of the Mekong Delta and its waterways. The team often remained behind the enemy lines in enemy controlled territory for days disrupting their troop and supply movements. The main motivational factor of wrtiing this book was not to highlight what the author did but to provide the general public and historians a chance to read about the valor and sacrifices that were made by 163 officers and enlisted men, from various points in Vietnam and at varrying time frames. It is a snapshot of the real war, not created in mind by Hollywood or from mistruths often found in other books from those stealing the valor.The author himself is a recepient of The Bronze Star Medal with the Combat Distinguishing Device and feels qualified to speek about the trials and tribulations of those featured in the book. The author served eleven years in the Navy and twelve more years in the Army. He retired as a Master Sergeant E-8. He now lives in Henderson, Nevada with his wife of 40 years..
