Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, Training, and Life-long Learning, 1996 This Congressional hearing report covers testimony given to the Subcommittee on Postsecondary Education, Training and Life-Long Learning relating to the issue of crime on college campuses. Specifically the testimony addressed a proposed bill before the House of Representatives, the Open Campus Police Logs Act, which would amend the Higher Education Act of 1965. Testimony also addressed the effectiveness of the existing Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, which was included as part of the Student Right to Know Campus Security Act, enacted to provide reliable information to parents and students about criminal activity on college campuses. Transcripts are provided of the testimony of witnesses concerning: the effectiveness of the existing law, how the law is being administered by the Department of Education, whether schools and the Department have been abiding by both the spirit and requirements of the law, what suggestions witnesses have for further changes to the law, and views of proposed Open Campus Police Logs Act.
