education in action leadership camp: The Leader in Me Stephen R. Covey, 2012-12-11 Children in today's world are inundated with information about who to be, what to do and how to live. But what if there was a way to teach children how to manage priorities, focus on goals and be a positive influence on the world around them? The Leader in Meis that programme. It's based on a hugely successful initiative carried out at the A.B. Combs Elementary School in North Carolina. To hear the parents of A. B Combs talk about the school is to be amazed. In 1999, the school debuted a programme that taught The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peopleto a pilot group of students. The parents reported an incredible change in their children, who blossomed under the programme. By the end of the following year the average end-of-grade scores had leapt from 84 to 94. This book will launch the message onto a much larger platform. Stephen R. Covey takes the 7 Habits, that have already changed the lives of millions of people, and shows how children can use them as they develop. Those habits -- be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek to understand and then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw -- are critical skills to learn at a young age and bring incredible results, proving that it's never too early to teach someone how to live well. |

education in action leadership camp: The Heart-Led Leader Tommy Spaulding, 2015-10-06 New York Times bestselling author Tommy Spaulding shows you how looking inwards--and leading with your heart--can transform your life. In his New York Times bestseller, It’s Not Just Who You Know, world renowned leadership speaker and former CEO of Up with People Tommy Spaulding talked about the power of building genuine and lasting relationships both personally and professionally. In The Heart-Led Leader, Spaulding turns his focus to ourselves--to who we are. Authentic leaders, Spaulding says, live and lead from the heart. The values and principles that guide our lives and shape our ability to lead others is far more important than our title, or our ability to crunch numbers, or the impressive degrees we display on our walls. To effect true transformational change, heart-led leaders draw on the qualities of humility, vulnerability, transparency, empathy and love. Illustrated with stories from his own life, and from some of the exceptional leaders he has met and worked with over the years, Spaulding unpacks what those qualities mean, talks about the 18-inch journey from the head to the heart--from our intellect to our emotions--and shows us how to incorporate them into our careers, into how we manage and lead others, and into how we live our lives. It is a vision of leadership that has the power to transform everything we do, and the lives of everyone we touch. |

Its twenty-six chapters also consider the praxis of educational leadership and management from political, economic and ethical perspectives in relation to issues such as equity and widening participation, and outline how ‘managership’ impacts on student achievement. Offering a unique balance of theory and practice, across school, college and university sectors, the book will be of great interest to researchers, academics, graduate students and practitioners in the field of educational leadership and management, and will be important reading for all stakeholders in the area of educational effectiveness and improvement. |

education in action leadership camp: Organization Development in Healthcare Jason Wolf, Heather Hanson, Mark Moir, 2011-02-01 In a world saturated with the “how tos” of OD, there is a void of evidence-based resources for both organizational leaders and OD scholar-practitioners to use as a guide while navigating the complex and chaotic environment of healthcare. This handbook has been created to fill this space and provide a resource for this vital audience at a time of great change and greater potential in the healthcare arena. The handbook will focus on the critical nature of OD in healthcare and how it applies in this unique environment; examining its broad use from hospitals to corporate offices and from small systems to multinational corporations. The book will provide research-based, practical processes and methods, while sharing compelling cases of how the compassion and care associated with healthcare is wound tightly with the OD work it encompasses. The handbook will also offer a comprehensive look at the role OD plays in the critical issues and significant changes facing healthcare today. The handbook overall is a small part history and a small part predictions surrounding very practical and applicable uses of OD In healthcare. Through the sharing of engagement processes, revealing outcomes and connecting each concept to a living case of how OD has impacted the healthcare field, this handbook provides a unique resource for OD and HR professionals, healthcare executives, MHA students and the academic community. |
education in action leadership camp: Trust-Based Observations Craig Randall, 2020-07-30 The results are in: observations are not improving teaching and learning. Pertinently, the Gates Foundation’s recently completed effort to improve student outcomes through enhancing the teacher evaluation process failed to achieve substantive improvement. The way observations are currently designed serve as an obstacle to teacher risk-taking. Teachers fear negative evaluations when their pedagogy is rated, and they lack faith in being supported by supervisors because a trusting relationship between them and their observer has not been built. Trust-Based Observations: Maximizing Teaching and Learning Growth is a schema changing evaluation model that understands people perform at their best when they feel safe and supported. It begins with twelve, 20 minute observations per week followed by collegial conversations driven by reflective questions, sharing observed teaching strengths, and the building of safe and trusting relationships with teachers. Add the elimination of rating pedagogical skills and replace it with rating mindset, and teachers trust. When teachers fully embrace risk-taking and innovation, it leads to remarkable teaching transformations and improved student learning. |
