fuel pressure sensor diagram: History of Air-To-Air Refuelling Richard Tanner, 2006-09-18 This is a unique account of the development and operational use of air-to-air flight refuelling since its early beginnings in the USA and the UK to the equipment that is in use today. The author draws upon his life-long career as senior design engineer with the successful British company In-Flight Refuelling who were responsible for the development of the hose and drogue technique now preferred by many of the world's air forces. The story begins in the early 1920s when the art of air refuelling was part of the Barn Storming record-breaking attempts that were popular in the USA. It continues into the late thirties when successful experiments were made. Amazingly, the Royal Air Force were not interested in pursuing this great technical advantage during World War II and it was the USAAF who requested the British invention to experiment with on their B-17s and B-24s. The Korean War saw extended use of operational air-to-air refuelling for the first time and now the 'tanker fleet' is an essential unit in major air-forces around the world.
fuel pressure sensor diagram: Modeling and Control of Engines and Drivelines Lars Eriksson, Lars Nielsen, 2014-04-07 Control systems have come to play an important role in the performance of modern vehicles with regards to meeting goals on low emissions and low fuel consumption. To achieve these goals, modeling, simulation, and analysis have become standard tools for the development of control systems in the automotive industry. Modeling and Control of Engines and Drivelines provides an up-to-date treatment of the topic from a clear perspective of systems engineering and control systems, which are at the core of vehicle design. This book has three main goals. The first is to provide a thorough understanding of component models as building blocks. It has therefore been important to provide measurements from real processes, to explain the underlying physics, to describe the modeling considerations, and to validate the resulting models experimentally. Second, the authors show how the models are used in the current design of control and diagnosis systems. These system designs are never used in isolation, so the third goal is to provide a complete setting for system integration and evaluation, including complete vehicle models together with actual requirements and driving cycle analysis. Key features: Covers signals, systems, and control in modern vehicles Covers the basic dynamics of internal combustion engines and drivelines Provides a set of standard models and includes examples and case studies Covers turbo- and super-charging, and automotive dependability and diagnosis Accompanied by a web site hosting example models and problems and solutions Modeling and Control of Engines and Drivelines is a comprehensive reference for graduate students and the authors’ close collaboration with the automotive industry ensures that the knowledge and skills that practicing engineers need when analysing and developing new powertrain systems are also covered.

fuel pressure sensor diagram: OBD-I & OBD-II Greg Branish, 2023-06-09 Onboard diagnostics (OBD) systems have been an integral part of vehicle design for decades, as OBD-II became mandatory in 1996 for all cars manufactured in the United States. Almost every aspect of the diagnostics system evolved from emissions requirements that were placed on the automotive industry. Manufacturers responded with increasing complexity in the electronic controls and reporting of errors. Fortunately, some commonization followed in the industry, which made the job of a repair technician or do-it-yourself enthusiast slightly easier when working on these challenging systems. Passing emissions testing has become critically important to manufacturers of high-performance parts and installation shops. Both the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and California Air Resources Board (CARB) have assessed massive fines for violations of the Clean Air Act based on information that is available from the vehicle’s OBD system. Many states now require vehicles to pass an OBD check to renew the registration, making proper operation even more important to consumers. OBD-I & OBD-II: A Complete Guide to Diagnosis, Repair, & Emissions Compliance is an insider’s guide to modern original equipment manufacturer (OEM) diagnostics systems. As a former diagnostics and performance calibration engineer, Greg Banish guides you through critical electronic control unit (ECU) functions that ultimately lead to why the check engine light on the dash is lit. Strategies are provided for how to begin looking for a solution when problems are detected. Listing every imaginable repair is impossible, but this book provides a solid foundation from which to work by explaining the electronic control unit ECU's logic in plain English. Practical examples from the author’s experience highlight important lessons that will save hours of frustration and confusion. In addition to repair tips, sound advice is given for those looking to modify their vehicles while maintaining the full functionality of the emissions and diagnostics systems. Modern diagnostics systems can be a blessing or a curse, depending on your level of understanding. This book helps you harness the power of the diagnostics inside the ECU to improve the ability to find and make the right repair the first time. This book shows that by using commonly available electronic tools, the consumer has the power to access a wealth of information about his or her vehicle. It also helps those who are looking to improve performance do so without compromise to the environment or enforcement agencies. Whether you want to repair the vehicle yourself or simply want to possess an understanding of how these systems work while dealing with service professionals, this is the guide you need.

fuel pressure sensor diagram: Automotive Electronic Systems Trevor Mellard, 2013-10-22 Automotive Electronic Systems deals with the technological principles and practices used in modern electronic automotive systems. The book includes how electronic control units function in the whole electronic system of the car. After a brief introduction to the mechanical parts of the car, the electronic and microprocessor systems are discussed. Although electronic devices are controlled either by analogue or digital systems, the trend is toward the use of digital. The basic principles of operation of a microprocessor are therefore given attention by the author. Cars depend heavily on sensors, thus, the importance of the different sensors, such as temperature sensors, direct air flow sensors, and turbine flowmeters, is comprehensively explained. Another part of the automotive system is the actuators or relays and both the solenoid and motors are discussed. The operations of the electrical system from the generator, electronic ignition system, to electronic fuel control systems are examined. The book explains the choking device in the electronic fuel control system that is needed when starting a car or the throttle butterfly potentiometer that monitors the movement of the plate in the carburetor every time the accelerator pedal is pushed down or released. The other electronic and computer controlled devices in today's modern cars such as on-board computers and electronic control of body systems are also comprehensively discussed. This book is helpful to car engine enthusiasts, car mechanics, car electricians, operators of car diagnostic equipment, and instructors of automotive electronic systems.
